Why is it Vandalism?

Because you removed substantial content which was supported by reliable references, and did so without any explanation or discussion. If you feel that was necessary, you must give an explanation on the talk page, and wait a few days until other editors have had a chance to read it and reply. Basically, you can't make changes on the basis of "I would have done it differently". There has to be a good reason, and text needs to be supported by reliable references.
