Hongshao pork[change source]

This week, you wrote

This is pretty good, but it's not perfect. There are some things to remember about how you write here:

  • The links use [[2 brackets]], not 3.
  • You only use '''3 marks''' to make the word bold the 1st time it shows up, not every time.

There are also some grammar mistakes. You can't fix all of them all at once. That's OK. Still, try to be better about these the next time you write. Little by little, you will be better and better.

  • You need to be more careful about your spaces (空格). Some are missing. Some are in the wrong place. Some shouldn't be there:

  • In Chinese 和, 但, and 因为 can start sentences but, in English, "and", "but", and "because" should always be part of a bigger sentence with a comma (逗号) and space in front of it.

There are also some things to be careful about when you write or explain things.

  • Chinese uses 肉 but it really means 猪肉, so in English you say "pork".
  • Especially in Shanghai, it's very important that the red sauce isn't only soy sauce. It also has sugar. (There's usually rice wine and ginger and garlic and other things too but the sugar is important.)
  • Because hongshao pork has sugar and soy sauce, you don't need to say it's sweet or salty. Sugar is always sweet, and soy sauce is always salty.
  • Hongshao snakefish doesn't use same "step". It uses the same special sauce.

Last, it's ok to talk about how you feel when you talk to people. On Wikipedia, though, you should only give the facts (事实) and not talk about opinions (观点). Other people will feel differently about how yummy it is, but we're writing for everyone.

Oh! I should do the other ones, too. =) Sorry I was a little slow. Last week, you wrote

This is pretty good, too. You talk about how you cook it, which is good. Some things to remember:

  • It's really pork, not any meat. It can also use shrimp, crabmeat, or veggies.
  • Don't talk too much about your opinions (like "tasty" and "fresh") even though it's good English. We're just telling people facts and they can try it for themselves.
  • The xiaolongbao is not made of flour. The dumpling skin is made of flour and water, but once they are mixed together we just call it dough, bread, dumpling skin, or something else. Usually, you'd say something like it's "a dumpling skin filled with pork" or "pork inside a dumpling skin".
  • "So" is another word like "and", "but", and "because". It shouldn't start a sentence by itself. It would look like
The soup is very hot, so you must be careful how you eat it.
