Narayanan Vijayaraj Alagarswami (25 August 1952 – 28 December 2023)[1] better known by his stage name Vijayakanth, was a Tamil actor and politician.[2] He was the Leader of the Opposition of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016. Before becoming a politician, he was a film actor in Tamil cinema from 1979 to 2010. He was the founder of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam and served as a Member of Legislative Assembly representing the constituency of Rishivandiyam, previously Virdhachalam.

Vijayakanth died from pneumonia caused by COVID-19 at a hospital in Chennai, India on 28 December 2023, at the age of 71.[3]
