It was released on November 11, 2005 in [[Europe]], November 14, 2005 in [[North America]] and February 2, 2006 in Japan for the [[PlayStation 2]] and on December 16, 2005 in Europe, December 13, 2005 in North America and October 12, 2006 in Japan for the [[PlayStation Portable]].

It is the second game in the the [[WWE 2K|WWE SmackDown vs. Raw]] video game series, the seventh in the series overall, and the first in the series to be released on more that one console. The game adds the [[Professional wrestling match types#Buried Alive match|Buried Alive]] and Fulfill Your Fantasy matches (mix between [[Professional wrestling match types#Bra and Panties match|Bra and Panties match]] and [[Professional wrestling match types#Weapons match|pillow fight]]) as match types, and the General Manager mode and Create-An-Entrance as new modes. It is the sequel to [[WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw]] and was followed by [[WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007]].
