Whitford is a rural town southeast of Auckland. There are multiple versions of how the town was named and many thought it was named after Richard Whitford who operated a flax mill in the town. In the recent years have seen urban growth in Beachlands and in Ormiston subdivisons saw the village seeing included traffic flow.
