Wrexham A.F.C. is a football club located in Wrexham, Wales but playing in the English league system. Wrexham are also the oldest Welsh club in football.[2] After winning the championship of the fifth-level National League in the 2022–23 season, the club will play in EFL League Two in the 2023–24 season.[3][4]
The club has received major international publicity since being purchased in November 2020 by American actor Rob McElhenney and Canadian–American actor Ryan Reynolds,[5] with the purchase completed in February 2021.[6] Their ownership of the club has since been the subject of the documentary series Welcome to Wrexham. The series airs on FX and Hulu in the United States and Disney+ in the UK and Ireland.[7][8]
