From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yadavs in Haryana are members of the Yadav caste living in the Indian state of Haryana. They also know as Yaduvanshi, Ahir and Rao Sahab. They are mostly agriculturists and also make first-rate soldiers. The British enlisted them in their Army though they had fought against them in 1857.[1] The Ahirs (Today Yadavs) popularly known as Abhiras in history, constitute a prominent element in the population of Hariyana. They form the bulk of the population of the Gurgaon and Mahendragarh districts and the Jhajjar Tehsil of the Rohtak district. In the districts of Hissar, Rohtak, Jind, and Karnal the Ahirs number only a few thousand. Since in the post-Mahabharata period the Abhiras modern Ahirs, became prominent in this region.
