Welcome

Take a big welcome from me. How are you? Also I have signed your guestbook.--Pratyya (Hello!) 11:57, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Pratyya Ghosh. Big welcome to this wiki to you too. I am good; I'm enjoying this wiki. Nice to see you also - I hope I am not evading the block on enwiki... but I can use this wiki instead. You will also find me on Wikivoyage, Commons, etc :) Curtaintoad (talk) 12:04, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No problem using this wiki. Your account is a global one. So no problem.--Pratyya (Hello!) 12:07, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. So I should not be evading it. However, when I log into this wiki, it also logs me in the English Wikipedia. But am I still really evading the block? Curtaintoad (talk) 12:11, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's no problem. When you log in this wiki you'll be log in to all the accounts are here.--Pratyya (Hello!) 12:17, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Curtaintoad (talk) 12:20, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Why don't you ask for an unblock at en wiki?--Pratyya (Hello!) 12:22, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but I just have to wait until the right time to get unblocked. My e-mail on en-wiki is disabled, so I probably can't get an e-mail sent. Curtaintoad (talk) 12:26, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No that isn't disabled. You don't have any specified e-mail address. Watch this.--Pratyya (Hello!) 12:30, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(I am now on iPod at the moment so at this point I may not respond straight away.) I'm very sorry again Pratyya Ghosh, but my e-mail address still does not work properly (but I was a bit confused when I told you on enwiki at the help desk). My email address is also on another website (but not on another wmf site). Any other questions? Curtaintoad (talk) 13:23, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Now I want to say that Go straight to your preference.Go down. At last of the preference you'll see E-mail options.

Under this,

E-mail (optional)* your e-mail address.Beside this there's a link named (Change your e-mail address) under this, * You do not have to provide an e-mail address, but if you forget your password, you will not be able to regain access to your account without one. You can provide an e-mail address later on, or change it. If you change your e-mail address, you will need to reconfirm it. You also need to provide an e-mail address if you wish to enable the "E-mail this User" feature to either send or receive emails via Wikipedia. Your e-mail address is not revealed when other users contact you.

written there.Then under this

  • E-mail confirmation: Your e-mail- a date when your e-mail authenticated.
  • Enable e-mail from other users
  • Send me copies of e-mails I send to other users
  • E-mail me when a page or file on my watchlist is changed
  • E-mail me when my user talk page is changed

you must enable the Enable e-mail from other users The other 3 depends on your choice.

After that hit the save button.

Then an e-mail will be sent to you with a confirmation link. Then clink the confirmation code and the e-mail address will be enabled.

Watch this. follow the rules. Hope you'll get help. Let me know.--Pratyya (Hello!) 13:28, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For more help again See this--Pratyya (Hello!) 13:29, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

 Doing... Let's hope it works... Curtaintoad (talk) 03:38, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

E-mail

Has it worked?--Pratyya (Hello!) 06:26, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not done – I'm sorry but when I click a box on the "E-mail" section in my settings, the tick does not appear. And I don't know why. Curtaintoad (talk) 06:33, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ps: How about I upload an image of my settings in my e-mail section? I will hide any personal information from there. Curtaintoad (talk) 06:35, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Go to Special:ConfirmEmail. And please give me a talkback message.--Pratyya (Hello!) 06:42, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Doing... Thanks, I'll read the message Curtaintoad (talk) 06:45, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

 Done! Curtaintoad (talk) 07:19, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So at last it is done?!! Please mail me your e-mail address.--Pratyya (Hello!) 07:23, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Now contact the admin at en wiki who blocked you. And if you need any help at this matter feel free to ask--Pratyya (Hello!) 07:25, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for both comments. If I tell you my e-mail address on here, it has my name on it, so can I please tell you my e-mail address by e-mail? Also can I please send you a message what ArbCom said to me about my block on en-wiki (before I contact w:User:Roger Davies)? Again thanks. Curtaintoad (talk) 07:38, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No problem and yes for both question. Also change your Signature please. The previous design at en wiki was very good.--Pratyya (Hello!) 07:44, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Nobody will know your real name from me.--Pratyya (Hello!) 07:46, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. CURTAINTOAD! TALK! 08:45, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have also changed my signature a little bit (1. removed white background) so if you want to you can change the userbox a little bit. CURTAINTOAD! TALK! 08:58, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I don't think I will be able to send any e-mails to anybody on enwiki (such as Roger Davies) because at the top of my contributions on enwiki there is a block tab and it says "e-mail disabled" on one part of it - but I will be able to e-mail other users if I am not on enwiki. But if it is extremely urgent to contact RD on enwiki of my block can you please do that? But if not, I can do it here. But the answer is probably going to be here. Thanks for advice. Twinkle

I see that you use Twinkle to warn the vandals. Did you know you can also use it to request quick deletion of articles? Not only is that simple to do, but when you use Twinkle for that it will mark the page as patrolled so that other editors can see it has already been taken care of. Other things Twinkle can do are tag pages with certain errors, and mark pages as stubs. Give it a try! --Auntof6 (talk) 22:38, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removing categories such as Category:705 deaths

Why did you remove the category with this change? I think I've seen you remove groups of categories from other articles as well. Was it because it was redlinked? You don't need to remove categories just because they're redlinked. Birth and death year categories especially don't need to be removed -- in fact, they shouldn't be removed as long as they're correct.

If you're going to be removing categories very often, you need to give some thought to it -- which ones you might be able to populate instead of removing, which ones will probably never fit into our category structure, which ones should be changed instead of being removed, and more. If you're interested in category work, I can give you info from time to time, because I do a lot of it. Let me know. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:07, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks and sorry for mistake. I would like to make lots of changes in only a few days please; where I can remove and add categories plus reverting vandalism quickly; like what you are doing. Cheers, curtaintoad | chat me! 05:13, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Why are you in a hurry? Do be able to do a lot quickly, you need to have a good understanding of how things are set up here. That takes time. I have redone the category cleanup on the Les Golden article. I will write up something on why I made each change so you can look at it. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:32, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I put something at User:Auntof6/Notes about category changes. Take a look at that, if you're interested, and let me know what questions you have. By the way, thanks for creating that category, Category:705 deaths. I changed it to use the standard template that is used to set up all the death-year categories. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:21, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the advice. curtaintoad | chat me! 08:53, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Question: Are there any notable categories that don't exist yet so I can create and clean up them? If so then can I please do it? curtaintoad | chat me! 09:01, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am creating a lot of articles about Spanish Paralympians. There are some issues with identifying which cities they are from and putting them in the right category. It would be nice to see categories created or people added to existing categories. (This probably requires a bit of checking to see what community they are from, what city the region is in, etc.) Category:Spanish Paralympic medalists is a good place to start checking some of these.) --LauraHale (talk) 11:20, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. curtaintoad | chat me! 11:21, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Help is good. :) I do not know where places are in Spain. It makes creating stubs annoying because I do not know which categories to put people in other than obvious ones like Category:People from Madrid. --LauraHale (talk) 11:29, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, both for help and advice. :) curtaintoad | chat me! 11:33, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thought of another possible category. :) Category:1996 Summer Paralympics‎ has 81 articles. Category:2000 Summer Paralympics‎ has 52 articles. Category:2004 Summer Paralympics‎ has 26 articles. You can go through Category:1996 Summer Paralympics‎, find all the people who played a specific sport at the 1996 Games, create a subcategory like Category:Track and field athletes at the 1996 Summer Paralympics‎ or Category:Swimmers at the 1996 Summer Paralympics‎ if you find three people who played the same sport at the Games. This might be simpler to do. :) --LauraHale (talk) 12:00, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for all the advice! By the way I am also adding redirects to pages. ;) curtaintoad | chat me! 12:02, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

┌─────────────────────────────────┘
Note to Laura: Let's give CT one specific small thing to do at a time and check the work before we have him do big projects. If you want him to do something for you instead of what I had in mind, that's fine. CT is still pretty new to all this and needs to get familiar with how different things work. I was thinking of giving him one small project at a time to introduce him to different things.

By the way, CT, what do you mean, you're adding redirects to pages? You wouldn't add a redirect to an existing page -- you'd either replace the page with a redirect, or you'd create a new redirect. --Auntof6 (talk) 12:13, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My bad. Sorry. Selfish moment. :) Did not mean to interfere or cause confusion. (I genuinely mean that.) --LauraHale (talk) 12:34, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, eg. Article: Cat; Category Redirect: Cats. I would add the redirect, Cats, for Cat. You might like to help me or cleanup this project, but thanks! curtaintoad | chat me! 12:18, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, I'm not sure I understand. What does a category have to do with it? There's a difference between the category "Cats" and the redirect "Cats". You don't have to have an article or redirect that matches the category name. I'll pass on helping with that -- I don't think it's really worthwhile to create a lot of redirects that aren't needed. They're cheap, though, so I guess they don't hurt anything.
By the way, I put the outdent back because it shows that my comments were following on to the ones before instead of starting something new. --Auntof6 (talk) 12:26, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I meant "category". curtaintoad | chat me! 12:37, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Thanks your warm welcome. Just like you, I'm a patroller, but at other wikipedia version. It's nice to meet you, Curtaintoad. Oh, you are Australian, aren't you? Theblues (talk) 09:56, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, Australian. curtaintoad | chat me! 09:57, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects

You know, I've thought about it some more, and I still don't understand why you're creating all those redirects. Could you explain some more what they're needed for? --Auntof6 (talk) 12:43, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I add the plural word redirect (eg. If I created a redirect called Cats, I would link it to Cat). What I am trying to do is to add the plural. I am trying to help improve this wiki by reverting vandalism, fixing categories and redirects. curtaintoad | chat me! 12:54, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I understand what you are doing. I don't understand why. What need do you see for all those redirects? I'm just trying to figure out what I'm missing. --Auntof6 (talk) 12:57, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have asked the admins to evaluate the creation of all these redirects. Feel free to comment at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Large number of redirects being created for no specific reason. --Auntof6 (talk) 10:56, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks, I will read that later. curtaintoad | chat me! 10:59, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Woohoo...this user's the sock of a vandal that I met on en.wiki a few months back. :) Arctic Kangaroo () 14:33, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Black gospel

You tagged this page for quick deletion, with the reason that it had little or no meaning. When you tagged it, it did have enough meaning for an article. It was (and still is) a stub article. It said what "black gospel" is and where it came from. Please give a little more thought when tagging articles for deletion. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 22:15, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your changes to Head

I reverted your edits to this page. Head is the main article for the category Category:Head (body part), and it belongs in that category. Neither the article Head nor Category:Head (body part) belongs under Category:Face, because the face is part of the head and not the other way around. The article Face is under Category:Face, and Category:Face is under Category:Head (body part). That is where they belong. If this doesn't make sense to you, tell me what you were thinking and I'll try to explain more. --Auntof6 (talk) 11:49, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sister links to Wiktionary

Hello Curtaintoad. I don't understand why you are adding Wiktionary boxes on all of these pages. In many instances, the links lead nowhere and Wiktionary does not in fact have a definition for those pages. Are you planning on creating the pages on Wiktionary? Osiris (talk) 02:03, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Osiris, the links to Wiktionary I have added on this project are blue-links. But I am probably not going to create pages on Wiktionary, unless it is notable. Also the reason I am doing it quickly is because I am finding them per [[Category:Articles with broken Wiktionary links]]. curtaintoad | chat me! 02:09, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That is not correct. The category Category:Articles with broken Wiktionary links consists of articles which contain wikt links which point to non-existent pages on Wiktionary. There is already one article I find which does not have a page on Wiktionary: Drosera. Please stop what you are doing right now. Chenzw  Talk  02:18, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(change conflict) Please stop adding those links. Partly because we don't usually put that template on article pages, but also because that's not what "broken Wiktionary link" means. It means someone found a link to Wiktionary that didn't point to anything valid, so they tagged it as broken. It doesn't mean the page needs a link to Wiktionary added. In addition, links to Wiktionary will always be blue, even if Wiktionary doesn't have an entry. That's because the red/blue thing only works within one project, for example Simple English Wikipedia. Again, please stop adding these links, and preferably remove the ones you already added. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:22, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you're not planning on creating the pages on Wiktionary, then the links are useless, and you should revert yourself at least on the pages where the links lead to non-existent pages. I checked Hobo, Gaucho, Fishstick and Drosera before I sent you this message, and all of those lead nowhere. Osiris (talk) 02:25, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like Chenzw is reverting them. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:28, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(change conflict)  double Apologies if I do something apparently wrong. Please let me know if I do something incorrect again. Thanks. curtaintoad | chat me! 02:32, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's what we did. Maybe you could check with someone before you start a series of changes again. That would be a less painful way of learning about some of our processes. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:37, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I was just trying to help improve this wiki. But I really need to quit my bored-mood and get some work done—revert vandalism, adding and removing categories and redirects correctly. curtaintoad | chat me! 07:01, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I know you're trying to help, and it's appreciated! You do really good work reverting vandalism. It's just going to take you a while to learn other things so that you can make other contributions, too. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:07, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Curtaintoad, are you planning/do you have any intention to appeal your block/get yourself unblocked on en.wiki? Arctic Kangaroo () 12:56, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nominating articles for deletion...

Hello Curtaintoad,

you nominated Tasman Island for deletion. At that time it was an one-sentence article, Named after Abel Tasman.. I put in ten minutes of work, and the article looks like a decent stub. en:Tasman Island contained everything I needed. This is something you could also do, when you see such an article, which is a stub. Most of the vandalism we get here is in articles about people who lived some time ago, or places that exist... --Eptalon (talk) 08:48, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Eptalon. Hmmm... I'm still pretty quite new to this project (IMO), but I think I will try better in the future! curtaintoad | chat me! 09:26, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Teresa of Ávila

Why did you revert 182.250.156.73's edit to this article? --Auntof6 (talk) 05:46, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that "quote" messages were unnecessary to be added for an article. But I guess it was constructive--oh, and I think I need to assume good faith as well if it is or not. Thanks. -curtaintoad | chat me! 05:52, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's one thing to remove something you don't think needs to be in an article. It's another to put a warning on the talk page of the person who put it there. Warnings are for users who do something bad, not something another editor happens to disagree with. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:55, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. Anyway, thanks. I think I will get used to this project once again. curtaintoad | chat me! 05:58, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have put back the information you reverted from this article. You are correct that it was unsourced, but that is not always a reason to remove information. You might notice that the entire article is unsourced, but we are not removing all the content for that. When we remove information due to it being unsourced, it is usually because the information is controversial or doubtful or something like that. If you want, you can tag the article as unsourced, but we don't always do that -- if we did, most of our articles would probably be tagged. --Auntof6 (talk) 12:10, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

But the changes seem to be a copyright violation and has been suppressed. curtaintoad | chat me! 12:18, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I didn't notice that until Osiris just mentioned it to me. That is a different thing from being unsourced. Unsourced means that there's no reference for the material. Copyright violation means that someone else owns the rights to the text and we don't have permission to use it. Two different things. You might want to apologize to that IP user for threatening him for the wrong reason. --Auntof6 (talk) 12:23, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have deleted the page as you requested, but the message left by the anonymous editor is not a personal attack. Please read WP:ATTACK and the quick deletion policy for more information. Chenzw  Talk  02:08, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Stuff worth knowing

Hello, Curtaintoad. Since your account has been flagged as patrolled presumptively, you should make yourself familiar with the guidelines on content creation. Since you seem to be translating articles from the English Wikipedia, this one and this one regarding translation and copyrights are important. If you translate content from another Wikipedia, please make sure to attribute the content to the original authors - I did this for you on Oral cancer, but you need to do it on your own in the future. Osiris (talk) 14:02, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. When I created the article, I copied content from en.wiki (but on en.wiki I do not see the copyright icon), pasted into the new article but I changed the sentences. I think from now on I should try to change sentences so that it is simple, short and does not violate copyright. curtaintoad | chat me! 23:53, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Hey, meeting after a long time!!! How are you? Hope fine. I'm feeling great today. Is your WP going fine?--Pratyya (Hello!) 05:08, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, fine like normal!! curtaintoad | chat me! 05:10, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a little unclear about your move rationale. What do you mean it is the "official name"? Firstly, WP:ON and ENGVAR would probably apply here. But also, which authority are you referring to, and how have they made the official name? Please clarify. Thanks, Osiris (talk) 07:14, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the page because I think many or most people might think the esophagus is the best name for the organ. Also, the en.wiki page has the same title. curtaintoad | chat me! 07:19, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Have you read the second link that I gave you about national varieties of spelling? That would apply in this instance: see en:wikt:esophagus. Unless there is a good reason not to, the page should be kept under the spelling it was first created under. Osiris (talk) 07:26, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You think "many or most" people "might think" that it is the "best name". Did you ask them whether they thought that it would be the best name? How would you know about it? Please read WP:RETAIN for more details - articles should not be moved/renamed simply to switch between the different varieties of English. Chenzw  Talk  09:19, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
