Wikipedia:Template messages

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Templates are used within pages to provide the same message over and over again. Changes to the look, wording, or style of the message can be done quickly, because templates are made again for the reader when the article loads.

In other words, when the message is changed, you do not need to update a page that uses it if you use a template. Standard notices that might be on a page for months or forever should be "transcluded" for easy updating. This loads the current version of the message and puts it on the page every time you load it.

Some templates are used to tell people something about the article. Other templates (also called navboxes) are used to give links to other articles. These templates are in Category:Navigational boxes.

For any of these messages, you can include "subst:" (as in {{subst:1911}}) when inserting them to put the full text into the page. Doing this means that any future changes to the template will not be shown in that article, but it can be useful sometimes.

To make a new message, start a page in the Template namespace. The title should be "Template:", then the name of your message. The page should then be written with the text of your message. Add your new template to this list.

Welcome to Wikipedia, unregistered user! Please note the following:
This IP address, Template messages, is shared by many people. This means that messages left here may reach the wrong person. Be careful when blocking this IP or undoing its changes.

If you are using this address, you can make an account to stop getting messages meant for other people.

Please think before blocking this IP or undoing its changes - if a block is needed, admins should consider using a soft block with the code {{anonblock|optional comment}} as the block reason.

Note: If disruptive changes are made using this address, abuse reports may be sent to the people who this IP is registered to.
IT staff who want to monitor disruptive changes made using this IP address can subscribe to a web feed of this page in either RSS or Atom format.

{{SchoolIP}}
(talk)

School IP address Welcome to Wikipedia, school user! Please note the following:

This IP address, Template messages, is registered to a school, and may be shared by many different people. If this school uses proxy servers, many people at different computers, or even at different schools in an area, can connect to the Internet through this same IP address. Because of this, a message meant for one person may be read by another, often someone who has not done anything wrong, and a block of this IP address will mean that everyone using this address will not be able to change Wikipedia.

If you are making changes from this address and are getting messages that are not for you, you can avoid this by creating your own account. If you cannot do this, it most likely means that doing so has been stopped so that other users cannot make any bad changes. You will then have to make an account at home and log in with it here.

Please think before blocking this IP. If a block is needed, admins should consider a soft block.

Note: If this address is used for vandalism over and over again, making changes without an account may be disabled for up to 1 year at a time, and abuse reports may be sent to the people who run the school in cases of long-term disruption by people with accounts.
School staff, to monitor this IP address for disruptive changes, can subscribe to a web feed of this page in either RSS or Atom format.

{{ISP|ISP Name}}
(talk)
Welcome to Wikipedia, ISP user! Please note the following:

This IP address, Template messages, belongs to ISP Name, an internet service provider through which many people may connect to the Internet using a proxy. This IP address may be given to another person when the current user logs off.

For this reason, a message that was meant to be sent to one person may be seen by another. If you are changing Wikipedia using this address and are tired of unrelated messages, you can avoid them by making an account for yourself. Sometimes, you may not be allowed to make an account for a short time because of attempts to prevent disruptive changes. In that case, please see this page.

If you are automatically blocked repeatedly, you should contact the company that operates your Internet connection or your corporation's technical division and ask them to talk to Wikimedia's XFF project about turning on X-Forwarded-For HTTP headers on their proxy servers so that Wikipedia blocks will affect only the person meant to be stopped.

Please do not block this IP or undo its changes without checking - if a block is needed, admins should consider using a block with automatic blocking disabled with the code {{anonblock|optional comment}} as the reason.

Note: If disruptive changes are made from this address, abuse reports may be sent to your ISP.
Tech staff who want to patrol disruptive changes made using this IP address can subscribe to a web feed of this page using either RSS or Atom.

We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but "message" was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that. Such articles are usually too complex. They need to be simplified before or immediately after being added to the Simple English Wikipedia. In addition, be sure to include attribution on the article's talk page. Thank you.

Advertisements are not allowed on Wikipedia and will be removed, so please change the article or page so that it has a neutral point of view. Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that you recently made a new article or made changes to one by adding things copied from a book, magazine, newspaper or another website without the permission of the copyright holder. Many sources, including websites found on the Internet, are copyrighted. I am afraid Wikipedia cannot accept any things copied from these sources as it can get Wikipedia into serious legal trouble. The article or changes have been or will soon be deleted. Next time, please look up sources to find out information for articles and explain it in your own words, and do not copy sentences or images from them. Thank you.

Hello, Template messages. When you revert a user's changes, like you did earlier{{subst:#if:| to [[User:{{{user}}}|{{{user}}}'s]] edit}}{{subst:#if:| to the page "[[{{{page}}}]]"}}, don't forget to leave the user a message on their talk page, especially when reverting vandalism or a test edit. You may find Template:User talk page warnings/table useful when doing this, to let them know that the change was considered inappropriate, and to direct them to the sandbox. Thank you.
