Source assessment table: prepared by User:dotdotcomma
Source Independent? Reliable? Significant coverage? Count source toward GNG?
https://africa.businessinsider.com/local/leaders/exclusive-teen-mogul-justin-jin-agrees-to-divest-some-media-assets-to-expand-african/fqfvl4l Yes While founders are interviewed, Business Insider staff team presents extensive analysis of the event. Yes Notable publication. Presumed to be written by the staff team. Yes Yes
https://nl.mashable.com/entertainement/9316/minecraft-made-justin-jin-a-star-now-hes-a-media-mogul Yes An interview, but Mashable presents a lot of evaluation. Yes A notable publication. The "Partnership" topic concern brought up previously is not applicable. It's a topic tag, just like the Minecraft Earth topic. In addition, it's written by Editorial Staff. Yes Yes
https://web.archive.org/web/20230818063425/https://dtgreviews.com/uncategorised/meet-the-16-year-old-minecraft-youtuber-building-a-fast-growing-media-empire/148795/ Yes According to a reviewer/patroller on enwiki Yes According to a reviewer/patroller on enwiki Yes Yes
https://thesource.com/2023/12/28/inside-justin-jins-poybo-empire/,%20https://thesource.com/2023/12/28/inside-justin-jins-poybo-empire/ No Interview. Yes The Source is a legacy entertainment magazine. Yes No
https://dailytrust.com/meet-the-billion-view-digital-upstart-and-its-16-year-old-founder/ Yes Part of an interview, but also a clear analysis. The journalist even makes fun of Jin, so it's clearly independent. There were also concerns about the MSN article being a direct copy of the Daily Trust article, but upon further analysis, MSN is a news aggregator. Not a press release. Yes A leading newspaper in Nigeria. Also applicable as Jin recently did a business deal in the country. Yes Yes
https://www.forbes.com.mx/patrocinado-justin-jin-magnate-de-los-medios-digitales-17-anos/ No Not sure what "Forbes Content" means, so let's assume it's sponsored. Yes Forbes is a reputable business magazine. Yes The article discusses the subject directly and in detail No
This table may not be a final or consensus view; it may summarize developing consensus, or reflect assessments of a single editor. Created using {{source assess table}}.

I didn't include the USA Today, Forbes.com, The Sun, and other pieces. dotdotcomma (talk) 05:26, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bringing over the discussion from the talk page with COI disclosure. Everything below is copied from there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gotanda (talkcontribs) 21:01, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

While it is the third time, a lot of new sources can be attributed, so I don't think the past AfD is valid. dotdotcomma (talk) 23:34, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There are not a lot of new sources. 1, 2, and 4 have already been thoroughly discussed and explained why they are not reliable enough to support articles. 3, The Source, is an interview with Jin, so first person. If Jin and his so-called empire are truly "the largest" etc. and notable, not just the subjects of a lot of paid placement media, then we should see some coverage in significant media. We do not. --Gotanda (talk) 00:25, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
1 appears to be a new one from several hours ago, so it was not discussed. Some other sources, like Forbes Mexico (staff) and Mashable were not discussed properly.
In spite, I think if the other sources merited the company as notable, the sources for the founder should apply as well. dotdotcomma (talk) 00:40, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think a new AfD can possibly be explored. dotdotcomma (talk) 00:40, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, thought 1 was the same Business Insider Africa. Regardless, it suffers from the same issues: no byline/appears to be paid content, interviews with Jin and Azikiwe (a company executive). These are not reported stories, they are just repeating first person accounts. Not reliable. Regarding Forbs, this has been explained again and again, as has the "claims" by Jin in Mashable. --Gotanda (talk) 05:00, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Concern about several sources. First, such a large percentage of foreign language sources? Starts raising concerns. The Forbes Mexico source has a byline of Forbes Content, not Forbes Staff. That's sponsored article, not a reliable source. This article is getting pushed really agressively - dotdotcomma, have you made the required disclosures (required by the ToU, so not optional)? You pushed this and related articles HARD on English Wikipedia, including using socks, which got you blocked there. You've continued to push this and related articles hard here. There's a connection not being disclosed here. Ravensfire (talk) 03:44, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have somewhat of a connection with the subject(s), but I don't think it requires disclosure – nearly a year ago, the founder (Justin Jin) along a few other people were communicating in the Jin's Discord (I can send you a link if you'd like). Me, with a few other people were playing around with Wikipedia and, I suppose, messing things up. We wanted to see if we could get the subjects associated with Jin on Wikipedia – it was like a game, reward was a Discord role.
And yeah, of course, sockpuppets/meatpuppets came up. This continued up until a few months ago, when I decided to stop messing around and genuinely try helping with Wikipedia. It's become quite fun actually. Around this time also, Jin and the companies have become a relatively large group. I think it merits inclusion. I'm still in contact with Jin as well, who has appreciated my work. Thanks dotdotcomma (talk) 03:55, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also @Ravensfire, I have been told that the company wants a page on the en.wikipedia.org. Normally I'd just do it as I've known Jin for a while. Never took payments.
But yeah, just checked, they seem to have hired a content company to do a piece on the enwiki using some contents from the simplewiki version. I am not related/involved in that dotdotcomma (talk) 04:02, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So some COI at least given you know Jin. That's something that probably should have been disclosed quite a while ago and yeah, it does affect my thinking some, especially that it's been hidden. Ravensfire (talk) 04:05, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Should I disclose that on my talk page? It's a weird COI, we aren't really friends because we only know each other online. Not sure what to use from Wikipedia:Conflict of interest dotdotcomma (talk) 04:07, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This conflict of interest explains a lot. Definitely should have been disclosed up front, but at least now we know for sure why you are pushing these so hard. Time for RfD again to get this all recorded? This talk page will disappear if article is QD'd--Gotanda (talk) 04:56, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
