The arrondissement of Clermont-Ferrand is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Puy-de-Dôme département, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its capital, and the prefecture of the department, is the city of Clermont-Ferrand.

When the Puy-de-Dôme department was created in 1790, the arrondissement of Clermont-Ferrand was part of that original department.[2]

Geography

The arrondissement of Clermont-Ferrand is surrounded by the other arrondissements of the department: the arrondissement of Riom to the north, the arrondissement of Thiers to the northeast, the arrondissement of Ambert to the east, and the arrondissement of Issoire to the south and west.

The arrondissement of Clermont-Ferrand is in the centre of the department and has an area of 1,796.5 km2 (693.6 sq mi).[3] It is the arrondissement with more people living in it, with a population of 375,518 inhabitants and a density of 209.0 inhabitants/km².[4]
