The arrondissement of Valence is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Drôme département in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its capital is the city of Valence.

When the Drôme department was created on 17 February 1800, the arrondissement of Valence was part of that original department.[2]

Geography[change | change source]

The arrondissement of Valence is the most northern of the arrondissements of the department; it is the smallest arrondissement of the department, with an area of 1,884.4 square kilometres (728 square miles),[3] but the one with more people living in it, with 314,233 inhabitants and a population density of 166.8 inhabitants/km².[4]

The arrondissement of Valence is bordered to the north and east by the Isère department, to the south by the arrondissement of Die and to the west by the Ardèche department.
