Beaver Lake (Arkansas)
Beaver Lake is a man-made reservoir in the Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas. It is formed by a dam across the White River. Beaver Lake has some 487 miles (784 km) of natural shoreline. It has towering limestone bluffs, natural caves, and a wide variety of trees and flowering shrubs. The thick forests come right to the water's edge.[1] It is a popular tourist destination.[1] Beaver Lake is the source of drinking water in Northwest Arkansas. It is managed, treated and sold by Beaver Water District. The Beaver Lake dam was completed in 1966 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers who continue to manage it.[2] Beaver lake is the first of four reservoirs that control the White river between its headwaters in the Boston Mountains and where it enters the Mississippi River. The other three are Table Rock Lake, Lake Taneycomo and Bull Shoals Lake.
