Joaquín Rafael Phoenix (IPA: [ hwakiːn / ra.fa.ˈe̞l / fiːnɪks]) (born October 28, 1973), originally called Leaf Phoenix, is an American actor. He is from a family of actors, like his brother, the late actor River Phoenix. He has been nominated two times for the Academy Award, and has won the Golden Globe and Grammy Awards.
Phoenix is popular for his roles as Commodus in Gladiator, and as Johnny Cash in Walk the Line. He has recently begun directing music videos, as well as producing movies and television shows. He also sang and recorded an album, the soundtrack Walk The Line, which won a Grammy Award. He has been a social activist for a long time, especially for animal rights. He is a vegan.
In 2019, he will star as the the Joker in the movie Joker.
