Kristrún Mjöll Frostadóttir (born 12 May 1988) is an Icelandic politician and economist. She has been the leader of the Social Democratic Alliance since 2022. She was elected to the Althing in 2021. Before entering politics, Kristrún was an economist who worked for Arion Bank and Morgan Stanley.[1]

Early life

Kristrún was born in Reykjavík.[1] She graduated from Reykjavik Junior College. She got a bachelor's degree from the University of Iceland and a master's degree in international studies from Yale University. She earned a master's degree in economics from Boston University.[2]

Financial career

Kristrún began working as a journalist for the business newspaper Viðskiptablaðið. She also worked for the analysis department of Arion Bank.[1] She was a specialist for Morgan Stanley in New York City and London.[1]

Kristrún worked for the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce in 2017. In 2018, she became the main economist for the Kvika Bank. She worked these until 2021, when she decided to run for office.[3]

Political career

In the 2021 parliamentary election, she was elected into the Icelandic parliament for the Social Democratic Alliance.

In 2022, Kristrún ran for leader of the Social Democratic Alliance and won the election, as she was the only candidate.[4]

Personal life

Kristrún is married to Einar B. Ingvarsson. They have two children.[5]
