Early life and career[change | change source]

Kumar was born on March 16, 1990, in the Nalanda district of Bihar, India, into a lower-middle-class Indian family.[4]

He graduated as a computer engineer from Amity University in 2012 and obtained a master's degree in Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 2015.[5][6]

He began his career working as an engineer for Wipro in 2012, where he created the navigation and multimedia system for Ferrari. Additionally, he worked as a director from 2015 to 2016 for Molina e Bianchi Industries, based in Vigevano.

In 2014, he launched a IT company in India which later became the Auxesis Group in 2015.[7]

In 2015, during his master's studies in Italy, he co-founded the first Italian peer-to-peer insurance platform, which was later acquired by Esedra.[8][7]

In 2016, he launched a platform called BTC2BID, which was a bitcoin-based custody system for paper to peer-to-peer money transfer. However, Kumar decided to discontinue the system due to money laundering risks and exploitation of the system by criminals to transfer physical cash. In May, he moved to the United States and worked on traceability as Vice President of Innovation for Responsible Gold in 2017.[9][10][11][12]

In 2017, Kumar published a white paper explaining the need for a more inclusive banking system and began developing the code written in 2016 to build a banking and payment platform for the crypto industry. The white paper received support from the global cryptocurrency community and raised $33 million in November 2017.[13][14][15]

On 11 July 2020, the CertiK Skynet system, owned by technology-led Blockchain security company founded by Computer Science professors from Yale University and Columbia University built to prove the security and correctness of Smart contract and Blockchain protocols, detected abnormal transactions related to Cashaa's Bitcoin wallets at blocks 638606 and 638692. 17 CertiK's security researchers quickly began their investigation to study the attack in detail. Researchers reported that there may be two internal operational errors or that the victim's computer is compromised by a malicious backdoor program.17 In July, its own CAS token rapibdly collapsed by nearly 40% after information about a hack of one of its bitcoin wallets.[16]

Philanthropy[change | change source]

In 2018, to rebuild the cryptocurrency ecosystem in India after the damage caused by the April 2018 circular issued by the central bank, the Reserve Bank of India, which banned banks from providing services to crypto entrepreneurs. The ban forced several crypto companies to shut down as a result. Kumar announced the non-profit initiative to educate Indian citizens about the emerging blockchain and cryptocurrency sectors through a 2020 roadshow supported by the Indian government.[17][18][19][20][21]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kumar announced the fight against hunger to save thousands of people who were dying due to the strict lockdown in India. He adopted 3,000 families to send food and basic necessities through Cashaa's infrastructure in India. He also urged other cryptocurrency companies with the hashtag #CryptoAgainstCovid to support disadvantaged families, which helped to aid 5,000 families during the lockdown.[22][23]
