Ladislaus Kurpiel (13 November 1883 – 24 June 1930) was an Austrian footballer. He played as midfielder for DFC Prag in the first German football championship in 1903. He had a brief time at Vienna Cricket and Football Club. He also played 8 matches for the Austrian national football team between 1908 and 1912.[1] He also played at the 1912 Summer Olympics.[2]
Career
[change | change source]Kurpiel began in 1896 at the age of thirteen with club football at DFC Germania Prague. Soon he went to the newly formed city rivals DFC Prague. He was known and feared for his powerful long-range shots. His greatest success at club level was in 1903. DFC Prague reached the the final of the German championship. They lost 7-2 against VfB Leipzig. Only in the 1903/04 season he played for Vienna Cricket and Football-Club, with which he reached the final of the Challenge Cup.
International
[change | change source]Kurpiel made his debut in the Austrian national team on 7 June 1906 in a 3-2 win over Germany in Vienna. 1912 he played in all three matches in the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm. On 3 July 1912 he played his last match in the team versus Italy.
