Mariupol (UK: /ˌmæriˈuːpɒl/, US: /ˌmɑːr-, -pəl/; Ukrainian: Маріу́поль, romanized: Mariupol' [mɐr⁽ʲ⁾iˈupolʲ] (listen); also Маріюпіль Mariiupil [mɐr⁽ʲ⁾iˈjupilʲ];[1] Russian: Мариу́поль, romanized: Mariúpol' [mərʲɪˈupəlʲ]; Greek: Μαριούπολη, romanized: Marioúpoli) is a city in south eastern Ukraine, situated on the north coast of the Sea of Azov. It is the tenth-largest city in Ukraine,[2] and the second largest in the Donetsk Oblast.[3] About 450.000 people live there.
