Muhammed Majeed is an American scientist and author of Indian origin.[1][2][3] He is known for publishing research on subjects such as Piperine,[4][5][6] herbal extracts,[7][8][9] and Bacillus coagulans.[10][11][12] He is also known for writing books on subjects such as phytonutrients/phytochemicals.[13][14][15] Majeed’s work has been cited by over 8,000 publications.[16]

Majeed earned his PhD from St. John’s University.[17][18] He also received a Master’s degree in Industrial pharmacy from Long Island University’s College of Pharmacy.[19][20]

Professional career[change | change source]

Majeed worked in research and development for pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer, Carter Wallace, and Paco Research.[21] He founded the ingredient supplier and health science company Sabinsa in New Jersey in 1988.[20][22] He is also the founder of Sabinsa’s parent company, the Sami-Sabinsa Group[23][24][25] and its associated R&D company Sami Labs.[26]

Majeed is also the founder of the nonprofit organization the Dr. Majeed Foundation, which has contributed to relief efforts in India.[27]

Research[change | change source]

Majeed has written extensively about the effect of compounds such as piperine on bioavailability.[28] In his literature, he has proposed the use of herbal extracts such as black pepper extracts standardized for high levels of piperine to increase absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream.[29] He holds multiple patents for the use of piperine to increase nutritional compounds’ bioavailability.[30][31]

Majeed has also written extensive literature on the effects of curcuminoids on biological phenomena such as serum cytokine concentrations,[32][33] COVID-19 infections,[34] cancer,[35][36] type 2 diabetes,[4] and skin diseases.[37]

He has also tested herbal extracts from the plant Coleus forskohlii as supplements for mitigating weight gain.[38] In addition, he has clinically tested forskolin, another extract from Coleus forskohlii, as an alternative treatment to beta blockers for glaucoma patients.[39]

Other treatments he has clinically tested include the topical use of Acetyl-11-Keto Beta Boswellic Acid (AKBBA) to treat psoriasis[40] and the use of hydroxycitric acid derived from Garcinia cambogia as a weight loss supplement.[41]

Majeed has also published literature on the effects of Bacillus coagulans (MTCC 5856) on biological processes such as major depressive disorder,[42] irritable bowel syndrome,[11] and cholesterol levels.[43]
