The Ottoman Interregnum, also known as the Ottoman Civil War, was a civil war in the Ottoman Empire lasting from 1402 to 1413. It began after the Battle of Ankara in which Ottoman Sultan Bayezid I was captured by the Timurids. Bayezid's sons, Mehmed, Isa, Musa and Suleiman, all fought each other for the control of the Ottoman throne.
The civil war started in 1402 when Timur captured Ottoman Sultan Bayezid I during the Battle of Ankara in which all the Ottoman princes managed to escape the battlefield, later causing the brothers to fight each other for 11 years over the Ottoman throne. In the end, Mehmed won, crowning himself and becoming Mehmed the First or Mehmed I, becoming the fifth sultan of the Ottoman Empire.
