On November 30, 2021, a gunman opened fire on students at Oxford High School[7]. The school is near Detroit, in Michigan. The gunman killed three people and injuring six others. The suspected shooter Ethan Crumbley is a 15-year-old sophomore student, who was taken into custody.

At a news conference, Oakland County undersheriff Michael McCabe said the gunman “gave up without any problems."[8][9][10][11]

Incident[change | change source]

Once the shootings happened, the school was plunged into lockdown. Some students were evacuated to a nearby Meijer shop.[12]

At 12:55 PM, police arrived at the school after receiving at least 100 911 calls.[13] The shooter was arrested unharmed, without putting up a fight.[12]

Responses[change | change source]

U.S. Representative Rep. Elissa Slotkin, whose district includes Oxford High School, tweeted about the shooting, calling it a "dark & painful day" for the state.[14]

Shooters journal[change | change source]

In the journal of Crumbley, he claimed to admire Jeffrey Dahmer and Adolf Hitler. He may have been inspired to torture animals by Jeffrey Dahmer.

  1. Sources do not agree on the exact time when the shooting started. WDIV-TV and WZZM say the shooting started at 12:51 p.m.[1][2] CNN reported that, according to a prosecutor, the suspect, Ethan Crumbley, was seen with a backpack before 12:51, "then a minute or two later he exited [a] bathroom without the backpack but with a gun in hand".[3] Detroit Free Press and BBC News reported that police received the first 9-1-1 calls at 12:51.[4][5]
