The Phoenix Lights, 1997

[change | change source]

The Phoenix Lights (sometimes called the "Lights over Phoenix") were a high-profile UFO sighting located in the Southwestern United States, appearing over the Phoenix Metropolitan area. An estimated 20,000 people saw lights over Arizona in March 13, 1997, and their origin is heavily debated. While many point to flares or A-10 Warthog formations, witnesses claim the sighting was of extraterrestrial origin. While the general populous claims the craft was 1–2 miles wide, many biologists point out Gestalt principles as an explanation for a supposed object. Additionally, biologists stress that **human vision at night** is often detrimental for estimating size and speed in the dark.
