Skype for Business (formerly Microsoft Lync and Office Communicator) was a software application for instant messaging and videotelephony. It was developed by Microsoft as part of the Microsoft Office suite.[1][2]

Skype for Business was established in 2007 and launched on October 27, 2007. It was followed by Office Communicator 2007 R2, released on March 19, 2009.[3][4]
