Biased approach[change source]

Obviously the author does not like Cuba as it is. But it looks a bit too biased, right? Cuba is obviously NOT one of the poorest countries in the world. Even if nowadays its economy is one of the strange economies in the world.

Cuba has a better rating in the Human Development Index than most other countries of Southern America, ahead of Mexico-Panama-Brazil, better than all of Africa and all of Asia except Japan/South Korea/Taiwan. World Food Programm certified that Cuba is the ONLY country in all of Latin America including the Carribean without undernourished children. 172.178.162.141 02:21, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are right the person who wrote that is against Cuba, and manipulates because the article doesn't say that cuban education and medical sistems are one of the best of the world, better than the USA, and of course all is for free!

Anyone who thinks the medical system in Cuba is one of the best in the world hasn't been there. Macdonald-ross (talk) 17:04, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. This article is very biased against Cuba and the beliefs of communism. I tried to clean it up some, but there is still way too much opinion. Qwerasdfzxcv1234 (talk) 03:08, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Use enWP properly[change source]

Anyone who wants to write on this topic should first read carefully the articles on en:Cuba and en:Culture of Cuba in enWP. Our role is to try and make the main points simple, and that will be difficult enough! Macdonald-ross (talk) 18:24, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Population[change source]

The current population value is not consistent with the source (there's a difference of some hundred or hundreds of thousands): the rank is also wrong. Kdammers (talk) 16:48, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The CIA's world fact book gives 10,985,974 (2023 est.) - I think we should use that number. https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/cuba/summaries/#people-and-society Kdammers (talk) 16:52, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The number currently shown in the infobox of this article is much larger than the number shown on enWP. Possibly the number here includes the surrounding exclusive economic zone (i.e. water around Cuba). English Wikipedia shows: 110,860[7] km2 (42,800 sq mi) (104th). I have not checked to see what area is presented for other island nations -- just the land area or both measures. Tetsuo (talk) 14:05, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Only GDP (PPP) is currently shown. No year is indicated. English Wikipedia gives both PPP and Nominal, and shows Per capita for each. Unfortunately the English Wikipedia GDP (PPP) statistic currently provided is out of date (2015). The source is the World Bank. English Wikipedia has 2022 data for Nominal GDP, citing the UN. In the case of Cuba, which has different exchange rates for different people or purposes, it may be complicated for agencies to express economic data in US dollars. I don't know what exchange rate the UN uses. If different sources provide hugely different GDP numbers, we probably need a footnote alerting readers to the distinctions. I see some the articles for some countries here cite the IMF for basic economic data. That is another possible source if someone wants to update the data shown here.
