Category:Continents or Category:Supercontinents[change source]

Addressing the issue with putting Eurasia under the category of a supercontinent: A supercontinent generally means one large landmass that contains most of all the world's land, or cratons. By criteria, Eurasia is one continent, because although it *is* large, it does not have much of Earth's total land, and there are several continents besides Eurasia that each have different sizes. @TavianCLirette: I understand your point. There are different ways of looking at what constitutes a continent. en:Continent#Number has a table that shows several of them. Wikimedia projects (which include Wikimedia Commons and the Wikipedias) needed to decide on a common option, and the seven-continent model was chosen. They also describe land masses like Eurasia, the Americas, and others as supercontinents. This may not match the strict scientific definition of supercontinent, but it is the convention decided on for Wikimedia projects. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:12, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am aware that the seven-continent model is used to classify "continents" across Wikipedia in general. However, I did not hear about Eurasia being considered a supercontinent. With the traditional continent model in mind, Afro-Eurasia is the landmass usually thought of as being a supercontinent, or the closest thing to one. If Eurasia cannot have the rank of continent for the purposes of the model, then so be it, but Eurasia is not a supercontinent.— Preceding unsigned comment added by TavianCLirette (talkcontribs) 02:51, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
