Memorial[change source]

The family is planning a memorial for today (Thursday June 4), one of many, and Eric Garner's mother is planning to attend. [1]. Darkfrog24 (talk) 14:42, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Current event or not[change source]

@Naleksuh: I am not sure we should stop considering the killing of George Floyd a current event. Even if we consider the killing completely separate from the George Floyd protests, the trials of the men who killed him are still pending and updates appear in the news. It's just a little tag and I have zero intention of edit warring over it, but that's my take. Darkfrog24 (talk) 16:06, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Darkfrog24: This can no longer be considered a current event. All parties are arrested, no further developments likely. It happened about a month ago. IWI (chat) 16:08, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Name change[change source]

I think we can call a spade a spade now. I propose a page move to Murder of George Floyd. GPinkerton (talk) 21:17, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Civil suit[change source]

George Floyd's family received $25 million in "a settlement." I think the article should say something like that. I might get to it eventually, but if someone's looking for some way to improve this article, there it is. Darkfrog24 (talk) 02:34, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Page move[change source]

Has the original Killing of George Floyd page been moved because now I can see that the title “Murder of George Floyd” suggests that it has been moved. RPBG 💬 🖊 22:35, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@RPBG: Yes, it has been moved from "Killing of George Floyd" to "Murder of George Floyd". You can see this in the page history. Lights and freedom (talk) 22:36, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Lights and freedom: Ok, thank you, I was concerned about it, but now I believe I didn’t need to be concerned because the page has already been moved. I was suspicious. RPBG 💬 🖊 22:39, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Page title needs references[change source]

Hello all, I know that the topic is controversial, and racism may play a part. I do however want to point out that DEWP still speaks about "Tötung" (Killing), and not "Mord" (murder) of G.F. Since this is controversial, it would be good to confirm the article title with references. At least here in Europe, murder requires intent and planning. Are there any reliable sources that talk about "murder", rather than killing? --Eptalon (talk) 18:49, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. The article contains many sources that establish that Chauvin was formally accused and convicted of murder. However, not all types of killing recognized as murder in the U.S. require intent. As to whether the article must say "murder," I don't have strong feelings about it. Darkfrog24 (talk) 19:10, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Chauvin was convicted of murder. George Floyd was murdered. This is a legal finding and based in reality, renaming it any other way short of his conviction being vacated would violate the requirement to be neutral and factual. Praxidicae (talk) 19:38, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Then adding some ref to the first sentence that also says "murder" shouldn't be difficult..--Eptalon (talk) 19:42, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Leads don't generally have sourcing since they are a summary of what the article says, and if you think that the article doesn't adequately cover that this was a murder, I really don't know what to tell you other than this seems like picking a fight for no reason. Praxidicae (talk) 19:49, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And it is sourced, Murder_of_George_Floyd#Trials and in the last sentence of the lead. Praxidicae (talk) 19:50, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a source to the first sentence; I just copied the one used in the enwiki article. Mz7 (talk) 19:59, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. --Eptalon (talk) 20:15, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
