Template:Vietnamese name/doc

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Usage[change source]

This template can be used at the top of an article to explain which part of a Vietnamese name is the family name, the correct spelling of the name (which may contain diacritics often omitted by English-language sources), and the part of the name that is the given name. As in many East Asian names, the family name is usually before the given name.

A Vietnamese person is usually called by a given name, especially the one at the end of the name, instead of by the family name. Therefore, despite what it says in en:Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies)#Subsequent uses of names, an article about a Vietnamese person may use the person's given name in a subsequent reference to him or her, instead of the family name.
