Redundant category[change source]

@Auntof6: or anyone else: I believe (not sure, there is no documentation) this template adds Category: World Heritage Sites which can be redundant if there is a more specific category. Ottawahitech (talk) 03:23, 4 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ottawahitech: Yes, it does add that category. I went to enwiki to see how they handle it, and they don't even have an equivalent template. Here are some things we could do:
  1. Add code to allow a NOCAT parameter, as some other templates have. If NOCAT is specified, don't add the category. Then add NOCAT parameters to the template on appropriate articles
  2. Change the category added to something like "World Heritage Sites by name" (and create that category). That way, the category wouldn't be redundant.
  3. Don't add the category at all, to any pages. The category would need to be explicitly added. We might need to explicitly add WHS categories to some pages that use this template.
  4. Stop using the template altogether. Its purpose is to add the little icon in the upper right corner of the page; do we really need that? As with the option above, we might need to explicitly add WHS categories to some pages.
Any other ideas? --Auntof6 (talk) 03:48, 4 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like user:Creol who created this template a long time ago is not very active, but has edited here 5 times in the last 365 days. I wonder if they have an opinion? Ottawahitech (talk) 04:57, 4 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
