Tom Stoppard

Sir Tom Stoppard OM CBE FRSL HonFBA (born Tomáš Sträussler; 3 July 1937 – 29 November 2025) was a Czech and English playwright. He was born in Czechoslovakia. He was one of the most famous contemporary playwrights working in English. One of his most famous plays was called Rosencratz and Guilderstern are Dead, and was based on William Shakespeare's Hamlet. He also wrote the screenplay for the movie Shakespeare in Love with Marc Norman, winning an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. He also wrote the screenplays for Brazil, Anna Karenina and Empire of the Sun.

Stoppard died on 29 November 2025 at his home in Dorset, England at the age of 88.[1][2]
