evstores (ee-vee stores: electric vehicle stores) is one of a cluster of new ventures that sell the currently generation of electric cars in London, using a unique set of favourable circumstances in the United Kingdom’s Capital.

Alongside the original pioneer, GoinGreen and NICE car Company (No Internal Combustion Engine), evstores’ founders recognized that a combination of incentives, car transport patterns, congested and relatively expensive public transport and a very large population with a high income created circumstances that suited low speed, urban range electric vehicles. Like GoinGreen and NICE Car Company, evstores focused on available and, relatively affordable electric cars. These are mostly quadracycles with lead-acid batteries and ‘off-the-shelf’ technologies. Charging these vehicles is specifically designed to be compatible with ordinary domestic supplies and maintenance is offered direct.

Together these ventures have created an early market of private electric vehicle users that is unique in the world. Other early markets for electric vehicles have typically relied on subsidized lease and pilot schemes.

Electric vehicles are enthusiastically supported by the London Mayor, Boris Johnson, who in 2008, created the London electric partnership (reference). This is a marked change after the uncertaintly around Congestion Charge rules that was created by the previous mayor Ken Livingstone and the withdrawal of free parking in the City of London (the financial district in Central London not to be confused with the larger city itself).

Unique among its peers, evstores is independent from its vehicle suppliers. It was founded in February 2009 by the same team that started NICE Car Company after that company was absorbed by Aixam, the maker of the Mega City. evstores now offers products from EuAutotechnologies in Hong Kong (the MyCar), the Tazzari Zero and the range of commercial vehicles from Micro-Vett. The latter supplier indicates that evstores may not be limiting itself to quadracycles.

evstores currently operates from a showroom and offices in Mayfair in Central London. In March 2009 it announced it started a feasibility study to bring electric vehicle manufacturing to London.
