What in the world?[change | change source]

What are you doing? Archives should ALWAYS be on a user subpage, not on another user talk page. PullToOpen Talk 03:30, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Make an article called User:Sir James Paul/Archive 1 and put your messages on it. PullToOpen Talk 03:33, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

There are a couple good essays on English, and I think they can be found at en:Category:Essays. They might not be there, though. PullToOpen Talk 03:42, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Well, I probably won't vote for you in the foreseeable future, because you are still making the mistakes you made before. For example, you already requested adminship on the simple english wikiquote. Your actions show to me that you want to be an administrator for the believed "privileges" that come with it. PullToOpen Talk 03:52, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
A note on vandalism: Don't wear the amount of times your page has been vandalized like a badge. Vandals crave attention, and when they see that you are proud of the fact that your userpage has been vandalized, they vandalize some more. If your page gets attacked any more, I'll protect it, but I won't protect after just one blank. PullToOpen Talk 03:55, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

As an admin said here earlier, getting respect should not be the main priority here. On the other hand, Admins do need to have respect of the community, before they can become admins. They usually get this respect by fighting / reverting vandals in the proper manner. It also helps to be very, very neutral in editing articles, and not to be seen adding any blatant point of views to the wikipedia. en:WP:NPOV has some good tips on that. Also by being neutral, diplomatic and evenhanded whenever dealing with other editors. Good luck - you do seem to have the determination and desire that it takes to help create a usable encyclopedia, and that's at least a start! God bless, Blockinblox - talk 04:15, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

You can get some ideas for helpful projects by clicking "special pages" link on the left... "Uncategorized pages" is a pretty popular one, that gives a way to find all the articles (automatically updated each night) that don't have cats yet. Then, click the category tree in another window to look over what cats we have already that might be appropriate. Blockinblox - talk 04:20, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

If you chose to help on cats, I feel it needed that you have at least one main sourse of help
That list covers the basic category tree down 2 levels. Many of the categories go much deeper, but understanding the main tree does help a lot in knowing were to put thing. Further knowledge will only come with a lot of time spent playing in the cats. The Complete cat list has much more info, but it is very unlikely even the most die-hard categorizer would need all that info at hand. Better to keep the concise version handy and just learn to browse through it to its subcats and find the best place to put something. That being said.. New Topic for you to consider -- Creol 08:18, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

A word of advise[change | change source]

Always remember every time you hit the save button you leave a record that people can judge your work by. The current New changes (12/10/06 early morning) shows multiple edits of your talk page. Over 10 edits in 2 different batches trying to get things the way you wanted them. Each time you save, people see what you did, and with multiple saves, what you did wrong. Yes, it is a learning process. That being said, the preview button in most cases will prevent all your trials from being saved for people to hold against you. Everyone makes mistakes (anyone only has to look at the number of times I've commented Typo in one of my edits... oy..) but you should really try to limit that exposure as much as you can by using the preview button more. Be certain when you hit save you are happy with what you are saving and not just checking to see if the most current entry is better than what you had.

As to Blockinbox's thoughts on working on cats.. I would suggest against it for now. You really need more practice on general layout (as evident by your recent edits starting out with the wiki tag). Look to Category:Articles_that_need_to_be_wikified. Focus on the fundamentals of layout and links first. Understand cleaning up those articles as a basic level and progress into in:wiki linking, Images, external links, tables and the basics of Categories before trying to deal with something like the category tree itself. Work on Wikifying articles, upgrade to cleanup's (great for understanding layout structure) and articles such as the {{you}} Category:Articles in second person (nice for creative thinking on context). Learn the basics for strong editing before moving on to the next step. A good admin should be a strong editor first. Focus on mastering the basics of editing along with vandal patrols and understanding what this wiki is and how it needs to be. These are the steps to becoming someone people want as an admin. In the end, a great editor is better than an admin. A good editor doesn't have to be an admin, but an admin should always be a good editor first and foremost. Be the best editor you can be before focusing on being an admin.

Just some advice for you to consider. -- Creol 08:18, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Wikiquote admin[change | change source]

Look, I will not be reconsidering my vote. If I ever did, it would be to change from 'Strong oppose' to 'Even stronger oppose'. Do not attempt to pressure me through sockpuppets and interrogation on my talk page, as I have warned you before about this. I have listed my reasons on Wikiquote, you are not ready to be a sysop. I know that you can do really good things for Wikipedia and Wikiquote, but you cannot continue trying to push people around just because things aren't going your way. Wikipedia adminship[change | change source]

Sir James, remember that other editor's impression of you will probably not change overnight. It takes a little longer than that, it is a gradual thing. But, there is a much better chance that it could improve in the longer run. As you probably know, there is an unofficial, unwritten "3 month requirement" here that makes it almost impossible for even the best editors to get adminship before someone has been editing here 3 months. Your 3 month anniversary will not be until Feb. 13. "Patience is a virtue". I am asking you to please not say another word about wanting adminship, before Feb. 13. Especially, do not campaign or pester other users or admins here. If you continue to harass other users with an election campaign after this, despite several people now warning you, I would not consider a short term block unjustified. Thanks and hope to see you around improving articles. Blockinblox - talk 17:00, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Your Rfa vote[change | change source]

You voted once on J Di's rfa you support and then another oppose then another support. Please make up your mind. --71.231.130.56 19:53, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Oh. Sorry. :) I saw oppose once. By the way, I am a girl. --71.231.130.56 23:05, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Vandal[change | change source]

It depends on how much vandalism the vandal has one. I'd expect you should start with {{test1}}, and then leave {{test2}} and {{test3}} (separately) if they continue to vandalise. J Di 02:30, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

AbbyItalia[change | change source]

Hello, in response to your message to Tdxiang, AbbyItalia has previously used sockpuppets to disrupt this Wikipedia and others. They also posted a lot of personal information which could put them (or someone else) in danger despite me warning them. Therefore, AbbyItalia will remain blocked. Archer7 - talk 08:50, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Subst[change | change source]

When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. Thanks. --ZimZalaBim 16:30, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Welcome template[change | change source]

What about Template:Welcome ? Blockinblox - talk 19:42, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Template:Anon is also good for encouraging IP editors to create an account. Archer7 - talk 19:50, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Barnstar[change | change source]

Barnstar Congratulations: You have been given a Barnstar!

I am awarding you this Barnstar for fighting vandalism on this Wikipedia -- Eptalon 20:11, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

admin?[change | change source]

Hi Sir Paul, anything great going on simplewiki? Well since I was kind-a bored, I looked on your two RfAs and I must say, you do have the ability to be an admin, but need more experience like what User:J Di needs. But just a question, do you think I'd ever make a good sysop? --§ Alastor Moody (T + C) 20:55, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Well I know how to make a RfA, but since I've been really busy at life, I was absent for about 2 - 3 weeks. But now I'm back. Also you can help me to be a sysop, but just a note saying that even admins can sometimes be inactive for a while before becoming active again. --§ Alastor Moody (T + C) 17:53, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Advice on simple talk[change | change source]

I just though about this, before I wrote it. There are quite a few (a long list) of articles marked unsimple. There are also quite a few in the other categories. Those things I mentioned are easy to do, yet no one does them. All seem to be focused on getting the number of pages in the project up. What use is a three-sentence article?

So feel free to contribute; you can only benefit. -- Eptalon 22:05, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Nonsense speedy deletions[change | change source]

The template {{non}} can be used to tag nonsense articles for speedy deletion. J Di 22:57, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

AbbyItalia[change | change source]

I have an idea. Why don't we have a voting conference on whether or not she should stay. Only users (not admins or IPs) can vote! The options for staying are, block, keep, neutral. Take note of my idea! --71.231.130.56 00:22, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes. I miss editing so I edit from the library. --71.231.130.56 00:27, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
71.163.57.79 needs to be blocked. Bless you as well. --71.231.130.56 00:40, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello, SirJamesPaul,

Yes, I know that the IP given above also was used by a user AbbyItalia; The Admin Team is currently looking into ways to resolve the problem. -- Eptalon 09:45, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

No, sorry, but I know who it is. I know the person personally. That's an account from my school. --71.231.130.56 23:55, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Sorry. I sware to lord I am not her. --71.231.130.56 01:28, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Make articles, but I want need someone to contact for vandals such as admins like you. And Tdxiang has afriends list and I want to do that as well.--71.231.130.56 02:29, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Template substitution[change | change source]

Please substitute warnings that you leave on user talk pages. Thanks. J Di 22:01, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Books of the Bible[change | change source]

I would be glad to fill out summaries of books of the Bible (OT especially) if you want them here. Would it be better to put the summaries on the pages for Old Testament and New Testament, or to make a seperate page listing each book's events in a paragraph or so? I do not like the book-per-page style that Torah is currently done in. Mindbleach 02:20, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
