The Venezuelan national soccer team was one of the twelve teams who played in the Centennial Cup America tournament. The cup happened between June 3 and 26 2016 in the United States.[2] This was the 17th time that the Venezuelan team played in the Cup America. When organizers chose the groups on February 21, 2016, in New York, they put the Venezuelan team in Group C with Jamaica, Uruguay and Mexico. Venezuela played its first game against Jamaica.
The debut of The Vinotinto[note 1] in the competition produced in front of Jamaica where won 0:1. In his second meeting, triumphed on Uruguay 0:1, and in his third and last presentation in the phase of groups, equalised 1:1 with Mexico, with what classified of second in his group. In the quarter-finals, would be defeated 4:1 by Argentina, remaining in the place 6 of 16 in the tournament.
