Welcome[change source]

Hello, Durova, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.

If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

If you would like to test Wikipedia, please use the sandbox. Please do not test Wikipedia by editing its articles.

Good luck and happy editing! · Tygrrr·talk· 15:03, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your new articles[change source]

Hi. I noticed that your new articles are better suited for our sister project Simple English Wiktionary. Please keep in mind that Wikipedia is not a dictionary. If you'd like to learn about how to help, the links in my welcome message above are a good place to start. And of course, if you have any questions, you can ask myself or another administrator. Thank you. · Tygrrr·talk· 15:03, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All right. They were redlinked on the vocabulary list so I understood those to be desired creations. Will be more careful in the future. Cheers, Durova 02:04, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage[change source]

On your userpage, you referred to en:wikipedia as Wikipedia.en. I changed this to en:wikipedia so that it is more recognizable. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 02:22, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Sometime I'll get around to starting a real userpage. That's great for now. Cheers, Durova 02:24, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Creation[change source]

If you are wondering what you can do to help this site, here is a suggestion:

  • At the top of recent changes, there is a section called Shortest Pages. Any page listed there is game for you to expand.
  • At the top of recent changes, there is a section called Most Wanted Pages. Any page listed there is a good article for you to write about.

I'll let you know if I personally am in need of help. Otherwise, happy editing! -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 02:27, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, thanks. I've been doing some work over at Commons lately so I thought I'd add some commonscat links. Maybe once I get more familiar with Simple English I'll try new page creations also. Don't want to be a net drain. Cheers, Durova 02:28, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Give it your best shot. Even if you make a mistake, other editors here will be more than happy to help you correct the mistakes that you made. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 02:30, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the encouragement! Durova 02:31, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 02:32, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you need anything else, feel free to ask me on my talkpage. I am on here most days out of the week, and depending upon if the question that you ask me is beyond me or if I am able to answer it, you will get an answer.

  • If I can answer it, I will answer it.
  • If it is beyond me, I will refer you to someone more knowledgable in that subject that me.

Let me know if you need any help. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 02:33, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like you could really use some help over here. I'll see what I can do. Durova 02:35, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What we really need right now are users who will be active contributors to this site. I wish you luck in the future :) -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 02:51, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

External Links[change source]

Instead of using external links, please user Other websites. This was decided a while back. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 04:31, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, okay thanks. Durova 04:38, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just letting you know. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 04:41, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Other general notes[change source]

Here are a few other general notes:

  • Userboxes do not exist in this wikipedia. The only way to get userboxes is to bring them over from en:wikipedia, and then make a user subpage for each userbox that you would like to make on here.
    • It would actually be better to make a page with a soft redirect to your en:wikipedia userpage where all of your userboxes are there.
  • Simplify all pages you port over from en:wikipedia please.

I'll add others as I think of them. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 04:43, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Numbers pages[change source]

Here is a way that you can help me out a bit:

I have started many articles that have to deal with numbers here.

If you would like, these are the pages that I need help on:

All the articles underneath the Numbers heading

Things that need to be done on these pages:

  • Move the categories to after the stub template (check before moving)
  • Interwikis from en:wikipedia need to be added.
  • Information from en:wikipedia that is simple enough for this site need to be added.

Thanks in advance if you are willing to help me out on these. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 04:47, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure I understand your request. Durova 04:53, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Click the link. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 04:55, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I did, but I don't quite get the context. Durova 05:00, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind about this. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 05:06, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Friends[change source]

Hey Durova, this is Razorflame. I'm just letting you know that I've added you to my list of friends here on Simple English Wikipedia and that I am hoping you will do the same! Cheers! Razorflame (contributions) Talk 21:18, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Sorry to be slow. I haven't been editing very often here. Durova (talk) 22:58, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New articles[change source]

Hey there, Durova! Here are a few good ideas that you can use to help in the making of articles that you might do in the future:

  • If the article that you created is under 1,000 bytes, please add the {{stub}} template into the article near the end (below the Other websites, but above the interwikis (detailed below)). This will let other editors know that it is a short article that needs to be made bigger.
  • If you have no idea what categories an article that you create goes under, please include the {{uncat}} template to the article. This will let other editors know that you need help categorizing an article appropriately.
  • Please remember to include interwikis at the bottom of an article. This will enable users to go between the many different Wikipedias that are in existence to check information and possibly add new information to the article here. It's mostly a convenience thing.

Thanks for reading this long message, and happy editing here on Simple English Wikipedia! Razorflame 23:08, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, will do. Thanks. Durova (talk) 20:03, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Commons pix[change source]

There is. --Gwib -(talk)- 23:40, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks. :) Durova (talk) 23:40, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good articles[change source]

I'm not sure if you already know this, but we recently finished overhauling both the very good article and good article requirements, and we now have proposals and voting for good articles and very good articles. Pages can be found at WP:PGA and WP:PVGA and WP:PAD. I hope to see you on those pages! Razorflame 01:21, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I noticed you really needed the basics of French Medieval history. Maybe I'll write something good or very good once the fundamentals are covered. Durova (talk) 01:23, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There are some articles that are currently being voted on underneath the page WP:PGA. The voting is going to be ending tomorrow for the pages listed there. Razorflame 01:24, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh! I forgot to mention that you should check the requirements for good articles out here before voting: Wikipedia:Requirements for good articles Razorflame 01:31, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I helped vote on that a little. But can Simple English really cite en:Wikipedia as a reference for a good article? Durova (talk) 01:37, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would frown upon that. Links to other Wikipedias belong in the interwiki links, not in the references section. Razorflame 01:38, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
ENWP is not a "reliable source" for the purposes of references and so it should not be used to prove a fact if, for example, anyone has queried it using {{fact}}. One article recently delete after RfD quoted loads of wikis as prove. Unfortunately when they where checked most were copies of each other, hence they are not a good source in themselves, but if the other wiki quotes the original source, and that should be used.--Bärliner 11:21, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

House of Valois[change source]

I moved the house out of category Kings and queens of France because not every member was a King or Queen, although it seems every article we have is about a King or Queen. It might be worth editing the category Kings and queens of France to say "see also House of xxx, House of yyy" etc. The alternative would be to create subcats in each Royal House "French Kings and queens of the House of xxx". The subcat would also be a subcat of French Kings and Queens. --Bärliner 11:16, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see, good move. Thanks. Durova (talk) 23:37, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you're creating a lot of year pages. I could do this a lot faster with my bot and save you some work, plus it wouldn't flood the recent changes list.--Werdan7T @ 04:23, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That'd be cool. I was doing some Medieval history stubs and it was really slowing me down to create a whole set of subordinate categories and pages with each new stub. So if you could automate some of that it would be great. Can you do birth and death year categories also? Durova (talk) 04:24, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just to let you know, all of the pages you created that didn't have any content besides Events, Births, Deaths, and a navigation box have been deleted. It probably goes without saying, but please don't create any more empty pages. Thank you. · Tygrrr... 16:55, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry to have caused any fuss, but it really does slow down article creation to have to fill in a whole series of redlinks at every turn. The raw mechanics of cut this, paste that, fill in the blanks was taking more time than writing stub articles for actual French monarchs. And many of the pages that do exist already for Medieval topics have nonstandard format because of the piecemeal approach. What harm does it really do to have placeholder pages for material that will inevitably appear as the project grows? Surely, something or other happened in the year 741... I deleted Otto I as it already existed as Otto I the Great. I put him and his relatives into a new category for the category:Ottonian dynasty too. --Bärliner 19:07, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thank you. Lots of inconsistent redlinks in the early Medieval articles. Durova (talk) 19:09, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
