References and research[change source]
Hi Ozhistory, thanks for your contributions, especially to Australian topics, which need lots of work. But please be careful. You will need to have good quality citations and references to back up your work. Otherwise you could write things which are misleading or wrong. For example, about Kevin Rudd you wrote "He lived and worked in China as a diplomat, so spoke really good Chinese". Yes he did live and work there, but he already spoke Chinese - it was the subject he studied at university, so that is why the government sent him to China. Although they did send him to Sweden first, which says something about governments. Although I know this is true, I would need to find reliable evidence to support it. A couple of seconds on Google found this from the BBC. You could change your sentence to say: "Because he spoke really good Chinese he was sent to China to work as a diplomat." Add the BBC reference to the article and it's looking much better. Peterdownunder (talk) 12:35, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yep, "simple" english can be trickier than it sounds;) Do add the Swedish stuff, I think it's good background and often overlooked.Ozhistory (talk) 13:53, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
