Abortion[change source]

Feel free to fix the article! :) fr33kman talk 21:54, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I gave it shot. Feel free to change/revert anything that doesn't seem correct. It's difficult trying to write about a complex and divisive subject like abortion in simple English. But, when the article uses a lot of technical terms like "menses" instead of lay terms like "period," I didn't see a reason to use "unborn child" instead of "embryo" and "fetus." I also edited the article. You're completely right in that "unborn child" is not neutral and I've changed that. I'll work on it some more. Feel free to continue to work on it also. Thanks for bringing it to our attention! All the best. fr33kman talk 04:27, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there, just very quickly: I am aware that "unborn child" is perhaps not the best term to use. However, as I pointed out on the talk page of the article, using "foetus or embryo" (or variations) as a replacement is not the solution either. No matter which term we choose, we will need to face criticism; I chose "unborn child" because it is easier to understand. For most people who read the article, the information whether what is aborted is a "foetus" or an "embryo" is probably unimportant (on the other hand: it is not even there, because both terms are used together all the time); Also, do you think it would be worth mentioning that in some countries aborted embryos (and foetuses) are used for stem-cell research? - Is there an other term we could use (because, as I said, using foetus/embryo all the time is awkward and does not really add information)? --Eptalon (talk) 11:40, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
