Welcome[change source]

Hello! I am assuming you have come over from the English Wikipedia, so you are probably familiar with the way this wiki works. I hope you like it here and decide to stay. Here are a few links to help you adjust:

There is much to do here. For example, there are a lot of articles that do not exist yet, which you can bring over from the English Wikipedia and simplify. Do have a look around and see what you would like to do. Thank you for joining us, and you know how to contact me if you need help. Rus793 (talk) 19:46, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Quick deletion of Calera, Oklahoma[change source]

The page you wrote, Calera, Oklahoma, has been selected for quick deletion. If you think this page should be kept, please add {{wait}} below the line {{QD}} and say why on the talk page. If the page is already gone, but you think this was an error, you can ask for it to be undeleted. You can find more information about the reason here. January 2017[change source]

We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but an article you created was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that. Such articles are usually too complex. They need to be simplified before or immediately after being added to the Simple English Wikipedia. In addition, be sure to include attribution on the article's talk page. Please see Wikipedia:How to copy from another Wikipedia for help in copying and simplifying articles for this project. Thank you. Rus793 (talk) 19:36, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, The Phase Master! Here at Simple English Wikipedia we use the section heading "Other websites" instead of English Wikipedia's "External links". This makes it simpler and easier to read. Please remember to use "Other websites" in articles that you create in the future. See the Wikipedia:Guide to layout for more information. Thank you for your help! Rus793 (talk) 19:36, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Rus793: So, my previous addition of Calera, OK from EW to Article space was too complex. Can I put it in Draft Space and request publish when I simplify it? Also, I can get help from other editors to simplify, correct?
Thanks,
The Phase Master (talk) 19:13, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes to both questions. Yes you can put it in a sandbox and edit it there and yes, you can ask other editors either for help. Even if it's just to look it over before you post it to article space. The procedure to copy from another project is in Wikipedia:How to copy from another Wikipedia. It also mentions attribution. This is giving credit to the editors at the other Wikipedia and is the only copyright requirement to copy from a Wikipedia page. Attribution is generally added to the article's talk space and looks like this. Simplifying means converting complex or compound sentences to simple sentences and use words from Wikipedia:Basic English combined wordlist. More complex words are linked to Simplewiki articles or the Simple English Wiktionary. It sounds more difficult than it is. You'll find yourself getting used to writing Simple English pages with just a little practice. You can ask for help here on your talk page, or to reach a wider audience, at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Using Simple English[change source]

Hi TPM. It is not necessary to use Simple (or Basic English) on talk pages when you communicate with other editors. The main use is in article space because our readers include children and those new to the English language. Those who prefer a simpler version of Enwiki articles also read our pages. If you want to use simpler words and sentences to make your meanings clearer, there is nothing at all wrong with that. But it is the articles read by readers we are most concerned with. Thanks for joining us here. Rus793 (talk) 19:38, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
