Blacksburg is a town in Montgomery County, in western Virginia. In 2000, 39,284 people lived there.

Blacksburg was first explored by Abraham Wood in 1671. The town is named after Samuel Black, who used to own land there. On October 2, 1872, Virginia Tech was opened with three teachers. On April 26, 2007, Seung-Hui Cho shot 32 people in the Virginia Tech massacre.
