Kannada (ಕನ್ನಡ) is a language. Most people in the southern Indian state of Karnataka speak Kannada. Do not confuse it with Canada. There are about 44 million people who speak the language.[1]

Kannada is a Dravidian language. It is more than 1600 years old. Many words in Kannada are taken from Sanskrit. Kannada has gone through changes several times during the years. Kannada has been adapted to include many other languages. There are differences in this language between North Karnataka and South Karnataka. The surrounding states of Karnataka: Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Goa and Andhra Pradesh have a large number of Kannada speaking people.
