I don't understand why this article on Sufism (a general topic) is promoting a person/writer Riaz Ahmed Gohar Shahi? In Islam, there have been many famous Sufis in history, from Junaid of Baghdad and Zhul Nun Misri, via Ibn ul Arabi, Jalaluddin Rumi, al-Hajvery, Moinuddin Chishti, to more contemporary times, and figures such as Sheikh Suleman Deded, Inayat Khan Dehlvi and many others-- none of these globally known figures are mentioned but this person is given a whole section? I think this is strange and unecessary/irrelevant to the topic here, and I am deleting this, please.Hamneto (talk) 07:13, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Would it be appropriate to have a section on this person if there were also sections on others? If so, then maybe a better action would be to create those sections. Maybe you would like to add a list of notable Sufis to the article...? --Auntof6 (talk) 08:51, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, yes, as I see it, first of all the article needs fixing basically its a very random and confused account; then we can do 2 things (a) give a ref to the case of Gohar Shahi in a section on prosecution of non orthodox Sufis or Sufi-type thinkers in Islam and (b) also make a section or list of notable Sufis in chronological order. How would that be? I'm quite agreeable to a mention in these contexts thanks, and willing to do the needful tooHamneto (talk) 14:47, 31 October 2012 (UTC)Hamneto[reply]
As to Riaz Ahmed Gohard Shahi: At some point in time,we had editors promoting articles about his organisation; they claimed to be "sufi" ("Free-thinkers", not adhering ot either Shia or Sunni. Since I am not involved with the religion, I cannot tell how much merit mentioning him here has. All I know that for example in Germany, there is a big "islamic" movement which sees itself as "Ahmadiyya". In short: if this article can be improved with 2-3 hrs serious work, this should be done. Unfortunately, I do not have the background knowledge to do it. --Eptalon (talk) 23:24, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Eptalon, you are quite right about various movements of a non-orthodox nature within Islam which have suffered or been persecuted also deserving mention. Mention should be made with proper references and all, to such but within adequate and balanced contexts. The focus in this article (Sufism) should remain on Sufism per se and its main historical preponents. I shall happily do the work required but it will take more time, than just 3-4 hours as the article needs to have considerable revision and addition of citations/refs etc. I shall make it a priority over the coming weekend however. Dear User:Eptalon and User:Auntof6 hello, with reg to our previous discussion, I have now given this article a basic shape and form and also I think put things into proper context/s. I am stopping work on it for now, and shall return to it in due course, to (a) develop it and expand it further and (b) add further articles which are seen here as red links right now. Ive opened this now for general editorial work and would also request help especially in smoothing out and making the article simpler please, although I have tried to keep it comparatively simple. Thanks Hamneto (talk) 12:37, 2 November 2012 (UTC)Hamneto[reply]

W ref to this article. I have done basic work on it and revised it extensively and some sort of shape and structure is emerging now. I shall now remove the 'in use' template for the time being and open this up for general editorial work. I hope it is ok, the way we are proceeding on this. Just a small note to mark that I have changed the last edit by User PassaMethod -- as this is the Simple English Wikipedia, I have tried to make the intro simple. For the record. Regards, Hamneto (talk) 04:26, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Hamneto[reply]
