Invitation to Organize Wiki Loves Love 2019[change source]

Wiki Loves Love (WLL) is an International photography competition of Wikimedia Commons to subject love testimonials happening in the month of February 2019.

The primary goal of the competition is to document love testimonials through human cultural diversity such as monuments, ceremonies, snapshot of tender gesture, and miscellaneous objects used as symbol of love; to illustrate articles in the worldwide free encyclopedia Wikipedia, and other Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) projects. February is around the corner and Wiki Loves Love team invites you to organize and promote WLL19 in your country and join hands with us to celebrate love and document it on Wikimedia Commons. The theme of 2019 is Festivals, ceremonies and celebrations of love.

To organize Wiki Loves Love in your region, sign up at WLL Organizers page. You can also simply support and spread love by helping us translate the commons page in your local language which is open for translation.

The contest starts runs from 1-28 February 2019. Independent from if there is a local contest organised in your country, you can help by making the photo contest Wiki Loves Love more accessible and available to more people in the world by translating the upload wizard, templates and pages to your local language. See for an overview of templates/pages to be translated at our Translations page.

Imagine...The sum of all love!

Deletion for Grace Wan[change source]

Why you think this Grace Wan page should be delete?

Nobility you say It says reason for quickm deletion is Is about people, groups, companies, products, services or websites that do not claim to be notable. This includes any article about a real person, group of people, band, club, company, product, service or web content that does not say why the subject is important. If the article says why the subject is important, the article is not eligible for A4 deletion. If not everyone agrees that the subject is not notable or there has been a previous RfD, the article may not be quickly deleted, and should be discussed at RfD instead.

You can use {{notable}} tag for such articles.

I think Grace Wan is very important person it have reference and website. Wbat do you and Wikipedia expect and require for more information about Grace Wan,

Why you think Grace Wan not enough information?

Plan2019 (talk) 02:59, 3 February 2019 (UTC)GWPlan2019 (talk) 02:59, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Plan2019 and thanks for taking the time to message me. You are very much correct in quoting the quick deletion policy but an important thing to note is that the policy says "that does not say why the subject is important". What this means and how this relates to the article is that Grace Wan may be an important person, but the article did not say how or why she is an important person.
Notability, or importance, is not expressed when an article only says that "x-person is an actor/actress". A good page to rely on when choosing an article topic is the general notability guideline - topics that are notable should be able to meet all or most of the criteria on that page. If you really think Grace Wan is important, then you should be able to back that up with multiple links and other sources that show that she is notable.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you, Hiàn (talk) 03:15, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

sorry for getting ahead of myself[change source]

I'm sorry for reverting wrong pages. I didn't mean to get ahead of myself. Angela Maureen (talk) 03:22, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@September 1988: No worries, Angela. As long as you realise what you did I don't think there's much reason to worry over it. Just be sure to watch where you use rollback in the future. Hiàn (talk) 03:23, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

QD request reasons[change source]

Hi, Hiàn. When you make a QD request, please choose a valid option. You indicated that the article on the song "Misfire" was vandalism, but it isn't. I'm going to decline the request because there is a weak claim of notability, but feel free to create an RFD reauest if you want. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:43, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Auntof6. This was an obvious mistake on my part and I'll take a look at the page again later today. Thanks, Hiàn (talk)editing on mobile account 12:29, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What city is that?[change source]

On your user page, you have an image of a large city. What city is that? --Dreamlover8 (talk) 19:46, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there @Dreamlover8: I assume you mean this image, which is an image of Taipei, Taiwan. Hiàn (talk) 19:49, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cool to know --Dreamlover8 (talk) 19:50, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. Could you clarify? Hiàn (talk) 19:08, 26 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Toronto Raptors[change source]

I was looking up Category:Sport in Canada and it appears basketball is not a considered a sport in Canada, at least not on Simple:-) Ottawahitech (talk) 15:11, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, but rather a sport in Toronto :-) Hiàn (talk) 18:01, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Vancouver, British Columbia[change source]

Hi, just wondering what is Happening with this cat. Why were there two cats to start with? Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 19:06, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ottawahitech: Hi there. I moved the cat from Vancouver, British Columbia to Vancouver to harmonize with the name enwiki has. This has other benefits, too - Vancouver (BC) is typically the first "Vancouver" that comes up for most people so having a more common-name (see en:WP:COMMONNAME) makes more sense, and the Vancouver subcats were already listed as just "Vancouver" instead of "Vancouver, British Columbia". This shouldn't have much of an effect on editing, HotCat will be able to point to the new name and a bot cleans out redirected categories IIRC. Let me know if you have questions. Hiàn (talk) 19:20, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah my bot moves the articles to the new category 7 days after a category was renamed to make sure it isn't just moved right back. So there is nothing anyone needs to do. Through I recommend putting atleast one article in the newly named category right away so that it doesn't show up on the empty categories list and gets deleted by an admin accidentally who doesn't realize it will get filled soon. -DJSasso (talk) 13:53, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I was unaware of this. I'll keep that in mind, thanks DJSasso. Hiàn (talk)/editing on mobile account. 13:55, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah its not a big deal. I just know I have had to undelete a category in the past that another admin has deleted as empty and they didn't realize it would have been filled soon anyway. -DJSasso (talk) 13:58, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I like simple Vancouver. It makes it much easier to edit. On en-wiki the naming of pages rules are different from here. There you can use a simple name (without qualifiers) if no other page uses that title. If someone comes in later with a similar title, the naming gets worked out at that time. I guess when the simple-user who originally started Category:Vancouver, British Columbia qualifiers were required at Simple?
BTW am I the only user here experiecing difficulty with wp:Hotcat - I usually end up typing the whole name in because autocompletion is so slow/non-existent? Ottawahitech (talk) 15:20, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know the historical naming conventions here (but perhaps DJSasso can provide more insight), but from what I see, we generally try to keep up with enwiki's naming conventions and I assume this was the same case in the past. I'm guessing enwiki's old naming conventions required qualifiers and when they updated their guidelines we didn't update.
As for HotCat, I guess that's more or less the limitations of the tools. I don't typically face issues with it, but that's probably because I was being ignorant or because I don't use it regularly here. Hiàn (talk)/editing on mobile account. 15:36, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Generally our naming conventions are the same here as for en.wiki. The only time they are different is when there is a word that is not simple. Think movie instead of film for example. But yes, the naming in this particular case the naming convention changed at en.wiki a number of years ago and we just never go around to moving all the articles here as well. I actually had thought I had until I noticed that you had made the change. -DJSasso (talk) 16:10, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Just to let you know I have requested a similar name change at Category talk:Ottawa, Ontario and linked to this discussion. I hope you don’t mind. I did this because I had forgotten this discussion took place on your talkpage and was looking for it on the Category talk:Vancouver. Am I making sense? Ottawahitech (talk) 08:34, 20 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It already had been 3 days before you posted that message. You posted on a redirect. -DJSasso (talk) 10:57, 20 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, looks like DJSasso got to it three days ago. As for the contents of the category, his bot hasn't gotten to it since it hasn't been a full seven days yet. Generally, if you see that box near the top of a category, it's a redirect (not in the #REDIRECT [[article]] sense). Hiàn (talk) 15:20, 20 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Libregamewiki[change source]

You reverted your own edit on Libregamewiki. 84.92.88.76 (talk) 15:40, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm well aware, anon. Thanks for pointing this out for no reason at all. As for the revert, it was because someone removed the RfD tag they weren't supposed to. Let's not waste my time, please. Hiàn (talk) 15:43, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

template:ELS[change source]

Hey Hiàn/Archive 3,

I was intrigued to see that the template:ELS you have redirected to the El Salvador flag template was linked to List of states and union territories of India by area. Just curious if you know why? Just curious. 15:39, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

Hey there Ottawahitech. A quick look reveals that there's a column named "country of comparable size" - El Salvador is listed there. Hiàn (talk) 15:42, 13 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming categories[change source]

I noticed that you've been renaming categories recently. For example:

Please slow down on these if they haven't been discussed. If you're doing it to match English Wikipedia, we don't have to match them. There could be a reason for our different names that you haven't considered. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:26, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there @Auntof6:, and thanks for the note. I'll keep that in mind moving forward (feel free to revert). As for the LA, CA categories, I was moving these based on a discussion above (though I'm not sure if that's a strong enough basis for the moves). Hiàn (talk) 14:27, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Removing deprecated parameters[change source]

Hi, Hiàn. You might not have realized it, but you have been flooding recent changes. Any time you're going to do more than about 100 of the same change, it's appreciated if you ask for the flood flag. Are you going to be doing many more of these right now? If so, I can give you the flood flag, and explain the process of using it. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:28, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that, Auntof6. I was on autopilot for a bit and hadn't realised. I'm still going to work on removing those for a bit so adding the flood flag would be much appreciated. My apologies. Hiàn (talk) 03:29, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK, please pause your work until I get it established. How long do you think you will need it? After it is granted, you will need to log off and back on for it to take effect. Then when you are done and the flag is removed, you will need to log off and back on again. Alternatively, I can grant it for one hour, three hours, or a day, and after it expires you log off/on. While the flag is in effect, you may work only on the changes that the flag is granted for. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:32, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think three hours is a reasonable amount, and I'll abide by those conditions when doing the work. Hiàn (talk) 03:43, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK, you have the flag. If you decide you're finished before the three hours are up, just ping me. If you want to work on other deprecated parameters in that time, go ahead. And thanks for doing that work! :) --Auntof6 (talk) 03:46, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Much appreciated. Sorry for the trouble! Hiàn (talk) 03:46, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have created the page Sony Sab. Kindly do edits here also.

how can you know if an ip is a school ip?[change source]

Is it just on behavior evidence or is there some sort of "school ip checker" website i don't know about? Computer Fizz (talk) 20:22, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) You can usually just check who the IP belongs to. And it will often be a school board or some other such thing depending on the country so it becomes obvious its a school. -DJSasso (talk) 20:25, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, in addition to the above, there's a handy WHOIS tool linked at the bottom of IP contribution pages to check. Hiàn (talk) 20:26, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hah yeah I should have mentioned that is how I check who owns the IP. -DJSasso (talk) 20:29, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Asian Month 2019 potential organizers for Simple English Wikipedia[change source]

Greetings, Hiàn. Are you interested in organizing Wikipedia Asian Month 2019 (WP:WAM) with me in this Wikipedia? Here are the guidelines. I think we need to move the 2018 page to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Asian Month/2018 if we want to organize it. —Wei4Green#TeamTrees🌲 20:44, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there @Wei4Green: I'm fairly busy this year so I won't be able to organize; I'd ask you consider asking BRPever as I had previously asked him to take over this year. Hiàn (talk) 00:15, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
