It means it is done automatically (or without input from anyone). See wiktionary's entry. Griffinofwales (talk) 21:56, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Waiting period[change source]

Is there any criteria under which the waiting period may be waved? This is my first time editing SEW, but I've had an active en-Wiki account for 7 years. Joefromrandb 04:34, 15 June 2017 (UTC)

@Joefromrandb: Welcome to Simple English Wikipedia. I don't remember the waiting period ever being waived. Four days and ten edits isn't a lot to ask. Experience on other Wikipedias is partly helpful here, but partly not. That's because some of the practices here are different, different enough that they can even look like vandalism if you're not familiar with them. If you're asking for yourself, rather than just for information, the better place to ask would be WP:AN. --Auntof6 (talk) 16:11, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's fine; just figured I would ask, as I know it can be waived on en-Wiki (in rare circumstances). I ran into something semi-protected almost right away, but it appears to have been an anomaly; the overwhelming majority of articles–even highly controversial ones–appear to be completely unprotected. That's wonderful, both that they don't seen to be vandal-magnets (at least not to the degree they are on en-Wiki), and that new users can generally contribute in these areas. In any case, I'm almost confirmed at this point, so I won't bother with a formal request at AN. Thank you very much for the response. Regards, --Joefromrandb 19:38, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
