Fallout 76 is a video game in the Fallout series released in 2018. It was developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks.

Although it came out after Fallout 4, Fallout 76 is not a direct sequel to it. It takes place earlier than all of the other Fallout games, acting as a prequel.

Fallout 76 was made using the Creation Engine, just like Fallout 4. It is also the first Fallout game made by Bethesda Game Studios that includes multiplayer. It needs an Internet connection to play.

In the Fallout universe, instead of innovating transistor technology, scientists innovated fusion power, allowing them to use it to power most everyday things in society. However, a resource war between the United States and China erupted into an all-out nuclear exchange on 23 October 2077, known as the Great War, in which most of humanity died in the span of 2 hours. Those who survived did so in great underground vaults, bunkers across the United States built by a company named Vault-Tec. However, Vault-Tec uses these vaults to conduct experiments on its residents, to create a society they have total control over.

In the year 2161, Vault 76's entrance is unlocked, and the inhabiting residents leave in order to explore and settle in the surrounding Appalachian wasteland.

The player controls a vault-dweller, who exit their vault on Reclaimation Day, a date proposed by Vault-Tec for the residents of Vault 76 to emerge from their home and "reclaim" the wasteland. Since Fallout 76 is an online game, all players are one of these vault-dwellers, who can choose to ally with one another or go their own way.

Gameplay

[change | change source]

Fallout 76 is a live-service game, and the map changes with new "seasons" or real-world holidays, such as Halloween, and Christmas. Special missions called "expeditions" take players outside of the map into new regions.

Fallout 76's gameplay is very similar to Fallout 4, as the two games share the same engine.
