John McEnroe
John McEnroe (born February 16, 1959) is an American retired tennis player. He became a professional in 1978.[1] He reached a world ranking of No. 1 for both singles and doubles. McEnroe is the only male tennis player in history to hold both No. 1 rankings at the same time.[2]
He grew up in Douglaston, Queens, New York City. He is thought of as one of the best tennis players of all time. He was once ranked number 1 in the world. He won three times at Wimbledon and four times at the U.S. Open. He is remembered for getting angry at the umpire very easily and his rivalries with players such as Björn Borg and Jimmy Connors.[3] He is also famous for his "You cannot be serious!" rant directed to an umpire in 1981 at Wimbledon.[4]
From 1986 to 1994, he was married to actress Tatum O'Neal. In 2009, McEnroe joined ESPN as a commentator for Grand Slam tournaments.[5]
