Montbrison is a French commune, a subprefecture in the Loire department in central France. It is in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is also the capital of the arrondissement of Montbrison.

The commune of Montbrison is in the centre of the Loire department and has an area of 16.3 km2 (6.3 sq mi).[2] The average altitude is 461 m (1,512 ft) and the city hall is an altitude of 420 m (1,380 ft).[3]
