Talk:Hyneria
Wikidata link to a different item[change source]
The page is linked to the Wikidata item for Hyneria lindae - the name of a species, where Hyneria is the genus (higher level). So there are two possibilities:
- if the page here is about the species, leave the link and move the page to the name Hyneria lindae
- if the page is about the genus, leave the page name and change the Wikidata link to the genus.

- i think the link is correct as you can check the other wiki pages named Hyneria are also linked to it. If there's any issue it would be in the content in this page but since I don't have enough knowledge about it i can't confirm that -- đAyesha46 (talk) 18:53, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- Your conclusion does match what other WP language projects have done, Ayesha. There seems to be a frequent lack of distinction between the genus and species of this extraordinary extinct fish, despite their having distinct names and separate Wikidata items (Q numbers). - @Ayesha46@Deborahjay Typically what en wiki links to is what we link to. The higher the QD number the more recent it is. A lot of editors make new wiki data objects without knowing what they are doing and leave a lot of things blank which causes errors. If I go to a wikidata object and see just one or two articles are linked then I know someone created them without looking for the original version. This causes an issue and we have to disconnect from that one, link to the correct one and then ask for deletion of the old one. It too has a hierarchy where we start with the top most of the chain and build down in the object filling in all the fields and that allows us to link objects together. Some articles do not get linked because there is nothing to link them to so it becomes suspicious and requires a look up of information to see if itâs related to anything else. Iâm working on two right now that somewhere along the lines a mess was made. The original Q was 5 digits the made up empty one is 9 digits long. I work regularly between WP language editions and extensively in Wikidata, and the problem here appears to be a matter of the subject's taxonomy - genus vs species, each with its own WD item. This is described in my initial comment, above. It may well be that over a dozen pages in the various WPs have indiscriminately linked to the species vs the genus, most often using the genus name for the particular species. - I donât think we need to go into a discussion as I know exactly what you are talking about. I believe it is something that can be easily fixed by looking at the page and connecting it to the correct Q based on the subject of the article.
