  • Sinhala is spoken by the Sinhalese people of Sri Lanka who happen to make up the largest ethical group in Sri Lanka. Sinhala is the most common with the other two notable languages being Tamil and English.
  • History: Sinhala has been around since the early CE. It has estimated to have originated from the 3rd century.
  • Sinhala is a mix of Vedda, Tamil, Hindu and also after white invasion Portuguese, Dutch and English loanwords are also used in Sinhala.
