Esmeralda Soria is an American politician. She is currently serving as a State Assembly member.[1] Soria won the election on Tuesday, November 8th, 2021. She swore in on Monday, December 5th, 2022.[1]

Early Life[change | change source]

Soria was born and raised in Tulare County, a county in Central California.[1][2] She is a first generation American.[1][3] She grew up working on a farm with her parents.[3] Soria’s parents valued education and giving back to their community.[1] She became interested in politics and law at a young age.[1][2][4][5] Soria went to University of California, Berkeley for her undergraduate degree.[1][2][5] She later attended University of California, Davis for a Juris Doctor.[1][2][5] A Juris Doctor is a degree you need to be a lawyer. Soria was one of the sixty people in the world that was accepted into Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Executive Leadership Program.[5]

After graduating from University of California, Berkeley, Soria began to work at the Sacramento State Capitol.[2] She focused on women’s health, education, and public safety.[2] She went to law school two years later.[1] During her time in law school at University of California, Davis, she interned at the White House.[2]

Fresno Council[change | change source]

Soria was elected to work on the Fresno Council in District 1 on November 4th, 2014.[1][2] She swore in  on January 6th, 2015.[2] Soria represented more than 72,000 people from her community.[2] Soria was a member of the Fresno Council until her win as a California State Assembly member in 2022.[1] She was recognized  as the first Latina Council president in 2018.

Soria ran for the California State Assembly in 2022. She won the election on November 4th, 2022. She swore in on December 5th 2022. Right now, she is working with a board of other assembly members.
