Haruna Sentongo (born 30 November 1987) also known as Haruna Sentongo, is a Ugandan businessman and the founder and chief executive officer of Haruna Enterprises, a real Estate Company Based in Kampala Uganda.[1]

He is reported to be one of the richest people in Uganda with an estimated his net worth of US$420 Million (April 2021)[2]

Haruna was born on 30 November 1987, in Kalungu, at town in Masaka greater district of central Uganda Region.

He is a son of hajji Haruna Segawa and Nakayija Jalia, who are part of a family with extensive property investments in Kampala.[1][3]

Education Career[change | change source]

Haruna attended primary school in Masaka, O-Level studies at Kabojja International School in Kampala and his A-Level studies at East High School, Ntinda. He attended Makerere University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.[1]

Business career and the Founding of Haruna Enterprises Limited[change | change source]

In 2003 Haruna started as a small retailer dealing in ladies’ handbags which he could import from china with support from his father.[1]

In 2005 he started trading in home and offices furniture basing from a distribution store in Kampala and with accumulated reasonable profits, he diversified into garments trade in 2007. He could import ladies' cloths from Southeast Asia and distribute them in the great lakes region. He could then buy commercial plots in different suburbs of Kampala City.[1][4]

In 2011, he incorporated Haruna Enterprises Limited, a private company with limited liability, through which he constructed Haruna Towers with help of loans facilities from different Uganda Commercial Banks. With more capital inflows, he continued buying large chunks of land and developing more Markets and shopping malls.[2]

Other business interests and investments[change | change source]

In addition to is real estate interests, Haruna owns and operates cinema halls including: a 7D, a 5D and a 3D/2D theaters situated in Ntinda, a Kampala neighborhood.[5] He also operates a chain of fitness centers in different conurbations of Kampala City.[4]

Manufacturing: Soft Beverages and House hold consumables

Haruna started manufacturing and processing; Bottled Mineral water, Skin Care Products and a range of House hold Consumables among which include: Hand Sanitizers, Laundry and toilet Soap, Candles, Confectionaries among others with factories located in Nsangi, Wakiso district of Central Uganda.[1][4]

Charity Work[change | change source]

In July 2020, Haruna exempted 500 tenants at his Segawa Market, in Mengo, Kampala from paying rent for three months, citing hardships experienced during the Covid-19 lockdown.[6][7]

In October 2020, he also waived 6 months rent for all his tenants at Haruna Mall In Ntinda as a way of stabilizing their businesses as a result of the lockdown[8][9][10]

Haruna plans to build a 213.4 meters/700 feet tall, 28 floor 5-star multi business plaza at an estimated cost of US$450 Million at Nakasero hill of Kampala city, in the next few years.[4]
