The Nations cup is a championship derived from the Wikicup and will take place for the first time on Simple English Wikipedia. The cup is played and won by skill of editing in teams of two, in which the purpose of the cup is to encourage editing and to make editing more fun here on Wikipedia.

The tournament is played in the style of the FIFA World Cup. Teams are put into groups, each running for a certain period of time, before being compared and the top two teams from each round will move to the next round. This continues until there are just 4 teams left, when a Semi-Final will occur. From this, the top two teams will progress to the Final, and the bottom two will progress to the 3rd Place Edit-off, or "Plate".

The winners will get a wikicup, the runners-up another award and everyone else will get an award just for taking part.

The points are awarded in the following way - :

Mainspace edits: 0.1 point
Stub article: 0.5 points
New Article (over 2000 Bts of text): 2 points
DYK hook: 3 points
GA: 35 points
VGA: 50 points

It is planned for there to be the initial Pool round, the Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and Final, however more rounds may be added depending on user uptake. The judges will make any changes to the rounds clear.

The Pools will be decided by the Judges during December 31st 2008

The Pools will run from 00:00 January 1 2009 until 00:00 March 1 2009. The top two from each pool will progress to the quarter final.

Finals[change | change source]

The Quarter-Final will run from 00:00 March 2 2009 to 00:00 April 2 2009.

The top user in each Quarter-Final will then enter the Semi-Final, starting at 00:00 May 3 2009 and ending at 00:00, June 3 2009.

The winner of each Semi-Final will then go to the Final, taking place between 00:00 June 4 2009 and 00:00, July 4 2009. The other two users will then enter the "Plate" for Third and Fourth Place. Note: All times are in UTC.

The two users that do not progress to the Final will enter the Plate to compete for third and fourth place. It will run over the same period as the Final.
