Hey, are you still interested in participating at CheapGrub? I'd really like to see you there more often. I'm sure you'd be a good editor for the articles (which have, for the most part, become stale). obentomusubi 08:23, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, I'm active there again. I've been swamped with work lately and haven't had time to edit anywhere. I've got things sorted better now so have more free time. See you over there. You're doing a great job btw! Thanks!! fr33kman talk 23:59, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Thank you for participating in my RfA, which passed with 21 Support and 1 Oppose. I hope I will be able to fulfill your trust as an admin on Simple. Special thanks to RyanCross for nominating me! --Meetare Shappy Cunkelfratz!

Oi!

Come and say hi! ;) How ya doin'? Goblin 22:38, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm good! I've been really busy with my new job. I'm doing locum work for doctors who are sick, on holiday etc. This means I've been traveling a lot lately! It's more money that I used to make, so I'm happy though! :-) How're things for you? (I'm getting back into being active at CheapGrub again) fr33kman talk 22:41, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good good! Glad it's all going well! I'm into GCSE season now, slightly reduced activity, but had a break today for 50 years of CTV - I need to go update the article now as it's not a future event! BTW: If you get time, could you help me simplify my next VGA here? Cheers, Goblin 22:48, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'll help with the page. I've been considering doing a VGA project with someone (going for the triple crown). I'll work on it a bit today and more later. :-) fr33kman talk 23:15, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, thanks a lot :). Content is complete, i'm doing redlinks atm then will move onto simplification. Pick a section any section! Goblin 23:17, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
How about you work top down and I work bottom up? Meet in the middle? We'll do red links, wikilink, simplify etc. until we meet. fr33kman talk 23:22, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, sounds good :). Might not actually do much for a day or so, sleep now, more CTV tomorrow then a bit more revision :(. But there is no rush ;). Regards, Goblin 23:24, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Red links

I took care of all the red links in the Jelckama article. Mighty Wodan (talk) 08:13, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent! Let me know how I can help further. I'd like to see this become a GA! :-) fr33kman talk 08:16, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there buddy :). Yes Al-Nassr is the correct name of the club but I tried to do the same thing done in the English Wikipedia in which they have Al-Nasr is the main page and Al-Nassr as the page that directs to the other page. By the way how can I link it to Al-Nassr pages in other languages and how can I change my username here :D ?. Sorry for bothering. Moho (talk) 03:52, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it seems to be a strange naming convention all 'round doesn't it?! Never mind. You can link it to other languages by putting [[en:Al-Nasr]] at the very end of the article (using English Wikipedia as an example and adding one link per line). You don't really need to bother, unless you want to, however; as a automated robotic script will be along today at some point and make all the various interwiki links (what these links are called) for you automatically for all languages that have an article about Al-Nassr. fr33kman talk 03:57, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
lol, sure is strange :D. Thanks for the info about the bot and linking. It's really useful :). Moho (talk) 04:02, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've re-moved it and requested the same to be done at enWP (which I can't do because I'm not an admin over there). Thanks! :-) fr33kman talk 04:06, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot. I've just written in en: Talk:Al-Nasr page in English Wikipedia asking them about the issue. SORRY FOR BOTHERING FOR THE MILLION TIME :D. Moho (talk) 04:17, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem; I also asked in en:Talk:Al-Nassr for the page to just be moved back as en:Al-Nassr doesn't seem to be overly discussed. Don't worry about bothering people over here with questions and what-not. We are a very friendly place and we welcome new users who are here to help (and boy, do we need the help!), so feel free to stick around; a single editor here can have a large impact on the project!! Take care! :-) fr33kman talk 04:21, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

attributions

I was wondering whether I have to attribute information that came from en.wp. I read what you posted here but does that only apply to article creation? Griffinofwales (talk) 18:25, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is written about articles, but it is relevant for any edits. If an edit is a direct cut and paste (even if words are simplified), or if the edits here are mostly based on pages at enWP then it must be attributed to comply with copyright. Let me know if I can help clarify anything for you. I wrote the guideline for copying, so I understand it well. fr33kman talk 18:31, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
For the articles I am working on currently (counties in U.S.), I would use info from en.wp (but use their sources [i.e. I would copy the source from en.wp and place it here]), and use some of my sources (NACO [National Association of Counties]). The question is, I would be using info from en.wp, but the info would be sourced from someone else, so would I still have to attribute the info? I would think not, because most of the info from this wikipedia comes from en.wp. Griffinofwales (talk) 18:39, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, in this case if the editor at enWP used information from somewhere else, you attribute the original source. If you use the exact wording (or close to it) that the editor at enWP wrote then you attribute the enWP article. In your case you'd use an inline citation using the {{cite}} templates wrapped in <ref> & </ref> tags. Basically attribute enWP if you copy and paste sections from there to here, and don't attribute them if you read one of their sources and then write your own wording for the article here. fr33kman talk 18:47, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

:( grrrr

Grrrr. I would change the block settings :P You were too fast. I had waited that he replied ;) Regards, Barras (talk) 21:05, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, sorry. I didn't think he had much to say that was worth it. He seemed to be angry and becoming petty with it. I'll change them back if you want to converse with him some more. :) fr33kman talk 21:11, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
lol. No. That was more like sarcasm... WP:RBI - your block change was ok (the first one). But I think it is better so, otherwise I think he had sent us mails or so. :-) The last block change was not needed. lol Barras (talk) 21:15, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Dude, you're killing me! :) I told you I was tired; I'm very susceptible to suggestion at the mo' lolz :) I'll set it back to "can't edit own talk page". If he abuses email we can kill that too. Cheers! :P fr33kman talk 21:18, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Now, go to bed, please ;-) It seems you are really tired :-) Regards, Barras (talk) 21:20, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be breaking the law if I did; I'm on a 36hr emergency on-call (9 hrs to go!) :( I should have been a pilot instead, they have limits to the number of hours they can work! :) Worst thing is I've only had one call -- BORING! fr33kman talk 21:27, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Poor Fr33kman :) Just to say: I go to bed now :p If you have time, have a look at WP:PVGA. One proposal needs a review :) Good night Barras (talk) 21:30, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Night! (Don't pity me too much; I make almost a whole weeks pay on one shift!) :) fr33kman talk 21:32, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bambifan rehab

Hi. I'm attempting to try and get a problem user on both this site and EN to contribute meaningfully. I have no alternative but to communicate on his most recent talk page. Part of his rehab agreement will be not to edit this site, so with any luck, you won't have to deal with him here. I blocked a whole bunch of his socks at EN and I simply don't want to play "whack-a-vandal" at this point. Thanks for understanding. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 23:48, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fine, for now. Do remember though that we are not EN. We're a different project, with different aims and different rules. Leeway given; based on your rep at EN. Cheers! (Good luck, BTW: I doubt you'll be successful, but I admire the resolve!) :-) fr33kman talk 23:55, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Much obliged and thanks for the props.  :) Believe me, I'm aware of the tremendous differences here. I've found it more difficult to edit than EN simply because I have to pull waaaay back with the fifty-cent terms. I wish more EN users would realize that and not toss problematic users your way as if this were some sort of kindergarten. Cross your fingers and hope I can do something with this guy. I can block him at EN if he becomes an issue and alert you over here since I don't have admin rights here. Just rollbacks. Anyway, thanks again. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 00:06, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NP; glad you understand our reservations. We are trying to be "stronger". btw: Please stick around here and edit. It is harder because you have to think out of the box a lot more; but it is also a place where a single editor can make a HUGE difference to a worthwhile project! Plus I'm sure you'd get the mop here also! :) fr33kman talk 00:13, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You have my word on it. I've been paraphrasing some of my work from EN and I'm amazed at the amount of really glaring red links on subjects which should be here but aren't. Thank you very much for the support. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 00:39, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stalin comment ... A minor request from fast admin

A minor Request to change page on Joseph Stalin - what admin is the quickest??

I can not change the page due to it's semi-protection and I just want to help out

This particular sentence I feel should be changed due to the idea that he did not wish to purge the Communist Party

3 paragraphs down from the top, beginning section.

"a campaign to purge the Communist Party of people accused of corruption or treachery"

The definition of purge is: 1 a: to clear of guilt b: to free from moral or ceremonial defilement,(Merriam-Webster) however Stalin wished have these people removed not to simply have them cleared. It's clear in the sources used to site this particular paragraph.

A better sentence would be "a treaty to have the people accused of corruption and/or ill-will within the Communist Party removed."

I'm excited to see who responds most rapidly to my request. Thank you and have a wonderful day!!

BuzzingHorse (talk) 07:37, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't find 'treaty' in Joseph Stalin. -- Mentifisto 14:24, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page of Aleksa Lukic

I've unblocked Aleksa Lukic from editing his talk page only. I know this is bordering on wheel warring, so my apologies if you feel that it was out of place. While I support your block of his edit privileges on the rest of the wiki, I feel that he should be allowed to ask about his block, so long as he does so in a civil and good faith manner. From what he had written since his block, I don't see any reason why he should have his talk page locked. I feel very much that this is only so that we have a record of his conversation (he's been on IRC for a while, but that carries no weight), and I fully support your block of his editing privileges. I hope you understand. Thanks! EhJJTALK 17:03, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's not bordering on wheel-warring EhJJ; it is wheel-warring! Nah, but seriously dude; that's fine! :-) I only stopped him editing it because he was very angry at the time about being blocked and was only using his talk page to demand that all his contributions to the project be deleted (which is not possible once they are made and thereby released under GFDL). I was planning on allowing him to edit it once he had calmed down a bit. He actually did request an unblock (ie: discussed his block) but he only used it to demand removal of his contributions to articles, and this unblock request was rightly declined. He also still had access to email admins, so could have discussed his block that way (remember that admins who choose to use the block tool, must have email enabled; specifically so blocked users can discuss their block). fr33kman talk 17:50, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just a method note, in the future just protect the page as opposed to changing his block...its easier and cleaner. I have no opinion one way or the other on the actual stopping him from talking. -Djsasso (talk) 18:00, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think you're right.

I told him, no intentionally bad edits. I think this qualifies as one. Thanks for letting me know. I'll withdraw the offer. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 22:35, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No problems! Sorry it didn't work out; I'm a bit like you, I like to turn them around, but only if they want to! Cheers! fr33kman talk 22:37, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I would much rather try and turn a user like this; no way would I try and help a malicious vandal. I don't think this kid is as much malicious as he is simply immature. Maybe someday. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 22:40, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I thinks he's mostly bored, and lacks an outlet to slake that boredom. We're (and any WMF site) are not the place to do it. I admire your intention, just not the subject. :) fr33kman talk 22:43, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

uoY knahT

Wanted to say thanks for the rollback approval... which I didn't promptly use on any pages, especially Peter Ham. I left a note about that one (and the user with the chronic revert issues) on the WP:AN page. I think I detect the scent of a carnivorous rodent, but let someone else double-check, I figure. Zephyrad (talk) 03:48, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. fr33kman talk 04:00, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
